Profile

The sounds of quiet clicking and crawling creeps by in the dark. The heart of the elven ranger quickens as his bow is drawn. All around him is nothing but darkness and moist rock covered in white silk. He searches but not even his darkvision seems to be helping. Then he feels it... the skittering has stopped. He turns ready fire but it's too late. The glow of four bright red eyes is all he sees before the darkness consumes him.

— Me

Scattered civilizations hidden throughout the continent. Dark and cavernous valleys with simple cottages and silk streamed walls. The silent whispers of caves and gentle talking between folks. Ventures out into the cold and dangerous surface. Few even daring enough to try and intermingle with those above, finding that perhaps their strange yet humanoid appearance leaves many uneasy. Arachnin are cavern dwellers where they build their civilizations with few families attempting to search for more beyond their simple lives in caves trying to fit in among the other humanoids which walk the lands.

Natural Hunters

Reclusive and Mysterious, Arachnin are known as skilled hunters, seamsters, and workers of silk and cloth. Though their professions may seem mostly passive they are quite skilled at nocturnal hunting and can be quite formidable if unseen.

Arachnin skin ranges from pale greyish blues to varying greys and whites, Their hair for ones that venture above ground are typically longer to conceal  their second set of eyes.

So Close, Yet So Far

Arachnin live to about a meager 50 years in age, so every moment counts to them. They find themselves often compared with Spiderfolk but with their lack of more arachnid-like legs and closer appearance to Humans and elves, they find themselves on a strange spectrum of discrimination. Their bipedal bodies make it much easier for them to navigate surface establishments, and thus they do have the ability to come closer than any others to integrating with other societies. but their two sets of eyes often make them easy targets to be picked on and excluded from activities and events.

Their eyes are sensitive to sunlight and when walking in bright daylight their vision is reduced to about half of a normal humanoid. But at night and in dark spaces they excel with their sight and are able to hone in on details often missed by other more darkvision adept species.

Individual Arachnin are quite varied in their personalities, Though with the way they are structured in their society the males tend closer to softer and quieter personalities whereas the females are typically more aggressive and assertive.

Villages and Caverns

Arachnin Villages are hidden beneath earthen depths and under mountains where the Arachnin spin silk and learn various skills with cloth and hunting. These civilizations are hard to find unless you are an Arachnin yourself. Very few outsiders manage to find them save for the unfortunate tunneling dwarf who soon finds he's on his last trip to the mines. Given their nocturnal tendencies and frightening appearance no other races have integrated themselves into an Arachnin society easily. And they can be quite territorial.

The Leading gender of Arachnin society is the females, who are often the ones to go out and do the hunting. They are also more likely than the males to leave the caves and attempt to live on the surface. Males are often homemakers or seamsters, keeping to themselves, though, they too can learn to hunt.

Aspirations, and Curiosity

Arachnin who take up the adventuring life might be motivated by wanderlust—for its own sake, for a specific purpose, or even a desire to learn more about the culture of literature. Other Arachnin are driven by the need to have more than their simple cave lives, or a wish to take their hunting to a more financially sustainable level. Societies of Arachnin are often very welcoming to members of other villages, though if you leave they will be cautious about welcoming anyone back. They typically feel uncomfortable with having outsiders in their homes.

Spider-like Abilities
