Amara

Amara originates from a species of mermaids which are quite magical, even though the magic they have can haunt them or even worse - kill them.
And Amara herself is one of the mermaids who has fallen victim to her own magic, too. Their survival is solely based on the magic potion-like liquid inside of her mermaid tail. It actually makes them immortal, means they don't die by age or fatal wounds since the liquid always heals them before they die. It also recharges after it's done its job! ... Except if the mermaid themselves use the magic of their liquid inside of her tail for things it wasn't made for. Or if the liquid is violently taken from them.

Which is exactly what Amara did.

Amara was a relatively happy mermaid, she grew up with a loving family and friends who adored her. She really loved spending her time with them, like traveling in the ocean with them, building houses made of different materials they either found in the water or on small islands. But as life goes on, many of her friends moved on with life. Many of them decided to search for the one true love in their love, which were mostly humans or other half-humans which lived normally above the water. Outside of the ocean. The species of mermaids she originates from are able to take on whichever form their loved one is too. Means if one of the mermaids found their one and they were a human, they'd become human - just like them. If they were a half-human/half-cat hybrid, they'd become exactly that.

But Amara didn't want any of that, she wanted to live her life with the other mermaids. The ones who were just like her. And one day, she found someone who was exactly like her, same mindset. Everything. Her name was Coira. They fell in love so deeply. Coira was the only thing on Amara's mind. Just like Amara herself was the only thing in Coira's mind. Coira was very protective of her, as Amara was very soft-spoken and graceful. But Coira's more harsh nature came from knowing the dangers of being a mermaid, especially the kind they were. Some humans were longing to get this "magic potion", the liquid inside their tail. Her mother and sister were taken away from her by these humans who hunted for them.

But despite the efforts... one day Coira went missing. And even till now Amara has no clue about where she could be. She became depressed, her longing to see Coira again grew stronger, every single day. After a long time, she realized... she may be gone. Forever. Probably the same people who took Coira's mother and sister away have taken her. Probably she's dead.

Amara didn't want to believe any of it, but she realized what may have happenend to her beloved Coira. So... she decided to train her magical powers. Eventually one day, she managed to restore memories in a way which allowed her to live through these times with Coira again, she placed the spell on a small citrus colored shell which was gifted to her by Coira, who also shared the same eye color as the shell.

She was overwhelmed with happiness to see herself with Coira again. But the sadness inside of her grew stronger as well. And it did grew stronger immensely, which harmed her magic. The constantly swinging emotions which were too strong for her harmed her magic in a way which led to her magic liquid stop recharging whenever she used some magic. She eventually soon realized, but she does not care. She knows it means she'll die some day if she keeps abusing her magic in such a way. But she can't live without seeing Coira again, but she is also afraid to just end it sooner by herself. She's convinced she never will find someone who understands her grief she has. So she is still seen in the ocean, swimming and reminiscing about Coira, with a faint smile on her face.
