Order mage, Gardener

Mediocre mage with no ambition to get better, painfully shy and and a bit socially stunted. Wants friends but also doesnt want to be percieved if at all possible. Has no great life goals and hates the idea of getting better with her magic.

Personality

Headshy, nervous, clingy to the friends she can get. A little socially stunted after living in Namarast most her life, but so is everyone else here. Will help (begrudgingly), but is honestly pretty lazy.

Despite her background, she doesn't really remember much of anything other than the Order. Is more a follower than a leader and will find herself going along with the crowd very easily.

Scared of her magic, but is too embarrassed to tell anyone the real reason why she doesn't work harder on her skills. Afraid to be judged, and will immediately have her hackles up if someone accuses her of cowardice. It is, however, true.

History

150 Born to Siregalese mage farmers after the civil war, Róisín's magic was somehing that was both celebrated, and immediately exploited. Her family loved her, but they were also desperate to boost their farms meager output with whatever magical efforts they could throw at it. Róisín's duplication ability was excellent for stretching seed stocks and doubling the egg output from the hens (with the only backlash being the filly's feathers splitting a lot), but the demand for more was always growing.

An attempt to clone the prize gander split little Róisín's wings, and pushing the young child to try and duplicate her mothers prized diamond halter ended up quite literally blowing up in Róisín's face. At that point, her parents sent her to the Order in Namarast. While they might have personally detested how the place was run, it was better than their little girl accidentally killing herself (or someone else) on the failing farm. (One less mouth to feed was also a positive, as the situation at home only got worse).

Róisín has since grown into an awkward mare, too nervous to try and push her magic any further but not especially wanting to ever return home. She's okay with just spending her days helping organise books in the library and working as a gardener.

Duplication

Róisín's magic is based in the duplication is existing items. Any item or animal duplicated is identical to the original, and the duplication is permenant. She can selectively dupe parts of an item, but it's harder for her than just copying the whole thing.

Costs

  • Magic does permenant physical damage to the caster with every use: Every time Róisín uses her magic, something on her is also copied. Organic matter is easier to copy than inorganic matter, and the smaller an item the easier it is to copy. Things like seeds, bugs, and teeth can be copied with no real effort, and will just result in some of her hair or feathers duplicating. Small birds and small items of jewellry might give her a second tail, or a second alula on her wing. Large animals or intricate pieces of clothing will cause internal damage, or duplicate key body parts (i.e wings, head).

Magical splashback also works fractally, rather than linearly. Trying to duplicate an item again that caused her wings to double would cause each current set to ALSO double. Some of her hair would get split into a dozen strands while she was still actively using her magic.

She can't fly with her wings (though she's scared of heights so isn't too upset). Her two heads are both under her control and share one brain- while she is capable of looking in different directions and some independent movement with her heads (i.e sticking out her tounge while still talking to someone), it's difficult and theres only so far practice can take her. She can't hold two conversations and has to be very careful when eating and drinking- she still only has one eosophegus and choking is a big risk for her.
