About

Vires is a half-demon fox who works as a lieutenant in an anomaly correction agency on Zephyr. His abilities in fire manipulation, additional senses as a half-demon, and almost encyclopedic memorization of protocols make him effective at both tracking down and containing or terminating said anomalies. He is almost always accompanied by at least one or two other agents under his command, often also contributing to getting field work done himself.

Raised by his very stern and professional father, he tends to be a stickler for rules and standard protocol, coming across as quite uptight and irritable when people break or disregard rules, regardless of their actual importance or relevance to a situation.

Personality

Friendly Reserved
Polite Blunt
Clever Foolish
Sensitive Tough
Brave Timid
Careful Reckless
Sincere Deceptive
Diligent Lazy
Calm Irritable
Humorous Serious

Vires presents himself in a very formal and reserved manner, closely following polite ettiquite and mannerisms, but he very clearly holds back a fiery and irritable personality that easily boils over when prodded at. Despite having a lot of care in presenting himself in a distinguished manner, he is very direct and open; if he doesn't like someone or something, he will plainly say it - unless he is beholden to an important negotiation. Even then, however, it isn't very hard to pick up on.

He does not possess much of a sense of humor at all. He rolls his eyes at jokes and becomes genuinely angered by playful teasing directed toward him. He is very steadfast in his occupation, often training and researching in his free time to ensure he is the best at his job as he can be, and he also helps his father out in his business negotiations relatively often.

While on the field, Vires is fully focused on the mission and attempts to get it done as quickly and efficiently as possible, also doing what he can to keep any teammates on track with procedures. He does not like going off script or showing off, but in the heat of combat he lets his wilder side loose. Even while he is a whirlwind in action, though, he still follows protocol to a T - aside from the very rare cases where he gets carried away.

Likes

Order and Tidiness

Vires likes to know what is happening and where things are at any given moment and becomes stressed when he doesn't know what to do or where something is.

Sparring

Vires finds high importance in honing his abilities on the field, and views sparring as a way to bond with others. He refuses to spar with people he doesn't like.

Research

Vires often likes to research various aspects of the Zephyr world, partially to make himself better at dealing with specific anomalies on the job and out of general curiosity. He much prefers reading physical literature, and enjoys both fiction and nonfiction - though when reading fiction, he is usually more interested in what he learns about the world through it than the story itself.

Dislikes

Improvising

Vires cannot stand needing to figure things out on the fly with no precedent, and becomes highly stressed when he doesn't know what to do or when he doesn't have what he needs in a given situation.

Teasing

Vires prefers to be taken seriously, especially when he feels a situation particularly dictates this. He finds friendly teasing and banter to be a disrespect and a waste of time.

Negotiations

Vires does not like having to participate in business negotiations, because this is one of the rare cases where he has to try masking his contempt for those he speaks to. That said, he still tolerates doing so because, according to his father, he is quite good at it. Business partners are often endeared to his poorly-contained hotheaded personality.

Skills & Abilities

Pyromutation

Vires can transmute parts of his body into fire and back. While in a fire state, his body parts decrease in physical tangibility, but become impervious to physical strikes and give off intense heat. Vires can extend and reshape his flaming body parts to varying degrees, and can "absorb" naturally occurring fire to increase his capabilities. When reverting his parts back to their regular form, any excess absorbed fire is "shed" from him, allowing him to spread and throw fire around.

Fireproof

The ability to transmute himself into fire of course is accompanied by a much higher-than-usual resistance to fire and high temperatures. That said, there is still a point where stronger flames can cause discomfort and even burn him, which can be caused by his own powers if he exerts himself too much.

Overdrive

Another risk of exerting his pyromutation abilities too far is his "Overdrive" form, which he shifts into if he goes past a certain threshold. In this form, his dark teal fur becomes pure black and a glowing orange marking appears on his forehead. While in Overdrive, Vires loses touch with his rational side and goes berserk, and gains the ability to generate additional flame unassisted, leaving a burning path in his wake. Vires strongly prefers to avoid this form whenever possible.

Capable Fighter

Vires has a heightened level of physical strength and resilience as a result of being a half-demon, and he spends a lot of time sparring and training in combat techniques both in tandem with and in absense of his pyromutation abilities, making him a capable and skilled fighter as well as a good leader on the field, with an eye for strategy.

Negotiation

Despite his attitude on negotiations and needing to pretend he doesn't hate the people he's making deals with, Vires is a very skilled negotiatior, able to succinctly argue for and against things, so his father has him occasionally help out when an important meeting is held. Interestingly enough, business partners often find his barely-suppressed hotheaded personality more endearing than upsetting, and this ends up making them more open to the ideas he presents.

Summary

Rebellious Upbringing

Vires had a somewhat turbulent childhood on Zephyr, having a hard time bonding with others due to his temper; apprehension from his classmates over his half-demon status did not help. There was a point in his life where he became an outlaw in a petty motorcycle gang, taking out his frustration on the world. His mother would often worry about him, and he would barely speak to his father, who did not agree with his path in life, but did not want to enforce his own will onto him, as it is demon tradition to let one's children find their own paths in life.

Too Far

As a literal half-demon with the ability to manipulate fire, Vires's presence in the motorcycle gang elevated them to greater heights as a crime organization, making them capable of increasingly large-scale crimes. Vires initially ate this up as a power trip, and even ends up making an actual friend in this group, a hyena named Karren who he actually enjoys talking to, who starts showing him the positive side of other people.

However, as time went on, the gang started becoming increasingly violent. A few of the members turned out showing their true colors as genuine evil now that they have the power to do so - especially Karren's brother, the leader of the gang. One particular act crosses a clear line for Vires, and his own role in empowering the gang to this point is made very apparent. Vires ends up snapping and deeply hurting some of the gang members in retaliation, the blood on his hands scarring him to the point he decides he must get himself under control.

Turnaround

After this incident, Vires finds himself much more diligently keeping himself under control. He keeps himself by the books, feeling that if he lets himself veer from this at all, he might slip back into his violent self from the motorcycle gang days, or that he might let things spiral out of control again.

Vires's father picks up on his change in character and newfound reclusivity. After some time, he reaches out and offers him a job in the Anomaly Correction Agency in which he has a high-ranking position within. Vires was hesitant to join and be around other people again, but decided to come around because it is a job that can help people while not interacting directly with many, beyond his immediate team.

In the Agency, Vires was not given a particular rank from the start, and instead had to start from the bottom and work his way up. A role which he took very seriously, quickly rising in the ranks of his own merit to the lieutenant position he is in now, commanding teams. He always declines any further promotion, as anything higher would see him behind a desk way more often, and he already can barely tolerate the negotations he is asked to help out with.

Mr. Capra

Father

Vires's dad is a high-ranking member of the Anomaly Correction Agency, having been the one to offer Vires a role in it. Vires is often asked by him to help with business negotiations, and he helped keep him reminded of ettiquite and specific rules until they became much more innate to him.

Mallet

Coworker

Mallet is a more recent agent at the Anomaly Correction Agency, recruited similar to how Vires was before, as his grandfather is a good friend of Vires's dad. Vires finds Mallet to be unbearably annoying and always hates having to work with him on the field, as he obnoxiously cracks jokes and throws rules and procedures to the wind in favor of reckless improvision and intentionally likes to get under Vires's skin.

Despite this, however, Vires and Mallet eventually develop a better understanding of one another with time, and end up forming an inexplicable bond. They still can't stand how one another act, but they understand why they are this way, and provide unspoken support for each other when they need it.

K.A.K.L.

Coworker

Originally encountered as an anomaly his team was dispatched to contain, KAKL would eventually end up joining Vires's team as an ally. When it is present along with Vires and Mallet, it often functions as a sort of mediator between the two, able to interpret Vires's orders and explain them to Mallet in a way that makes them sound good to him, or even convince him it was his own idea, to make it so he is more likely to actually follow them.

Mavra

Coworker

Mavra is another field agent Vires works with. She shows respect for Vires and takes her job seriously. Occasionally she comes up with ideas and suggestions to pitch to Vires, and shows a high level of patience when it comes to convincing him of these changed ideas and how they can still align to overall protocol, even if the back and forth wears at her sometimes. She is one of the few people capable of changing Vires's mind.

Lillith

Friend

Vires met Lillith as a newer recruit to the Anomalous Correction Agency, shortly after he himself joined. Lillith showed promise, but when it came down to the violence with containing some entities, Lillith quickly realized she didn't have the stomach for it and resigned from the group. Lillith did not get far enough to learn the anomalous nature of the job in full, but did become close friends with Vires.

Because Vires is such close friends with Lillith, he petitioned to be added as an exception to a rule preventing former almost-recruits from being spoken to. This was deemed acceptable due to Vires's adherence to the rules, along with some influence from his father as one of the only times he does something like this for him, and Vires continues his friendship with her under the condition that he keeps the details of his job a secret.

Despite Lillith not having had the resolve for the job, she is an exceptional fighter in part due to her talent with dancing, able to go toe to toe with and potentially even outmaneuver Vires. Due to this, Lillith is Vires's main choice in a sparring partner when off duty. There was one incident where she riled Vires up too much during practice and he knocked one of her teeth out, and despite his apologetic response, Lillith laughed it off and had him keep the tooth as a show of his skill, their friendship, and to Vires, a reminder of how easily he can fly off the handle.

Karren

Friend

Vires and Karren were both members of the same motorcycle gang back in Vires's rebellious phase, and she is the only person from that time who Vires is still in touch with, aside from his parents. Similar to Vires, Karren also left the gang after the incident and cut ties with her violent brother. Vires and Karren meet up to hang out now and then, and she is one of the few people whose jokes Vires tolerates.

Eventually, Karren does enough prying and deduction work to figure out that Vires works with anomalous entities. Vires is horrified she figured out, but she just laughs it off. Vires ends up making an extremely rare exception to the rules to allow her to keep this memory, because he worries they might have to erase a lot of her memories because of the nebulous point where she truly found out. The two remain good friends, even if they don't hang out super frequently.
