There’s a haunted forest in the (unnamed pokemon Ontario) region, full of ghosts and foxes. Those who’ve encountered the mysterious woman in the woods say she’s one or the other.

The woods have a reputation. A large number of unsolved missing child cases are attributed to the dangers of the forest, with a lot of undue blame falling on the zoroark population. Though the foxes are much more inclined to keep their distance from people until provoked, some have been caught among a farmer’s livestock, and the leap of judgement was made to assume they’d take children, too. The woods are a place for the lost and the hidden.

Naturally, the forest is a common subject of interest and speculation for urban legends, paranormal investigators, and true crime fans alike. Helena herself has sparked many rumours as a recluse living alone in the forest, and nobody yet has pinpointed who or what she is. She’s aware of some of these rumours, and encourages them in the hopes of scaring people away from the woods. What she fails to realize is that ghost hunting is a whole thing, and what works to drive away one person will only serve to attract others.

In actually she is a regular human person, though the woods have been her home since she was 11 years old. Helena rarely leaves the forest and does not interact with people when she does not have to, primarily only for supply runs of the things she can’t find on her own. She intends to scare off any she finds entering her neck of the woods.... but she’s got a soft spot for children. She’ll feed and shelter lost kids and runaways, and help them get home. Or away from home. Contributing to the ‘disappearances’.

—> She’s Severely farsighted and needs glasses so bad. She’s used to it though and it doesn’t have much of an impact on her day-to-day activities so she doesn’t realize just how bad it is.
—> She doesn’t super vibe with the law if she thinks a law is dumb.
—> She’s a slow reader, but she enjoys books ‘borrowed’ from secondhand shops (she treats them like libraries and returns the books when she’s finished with them). Her favourites are mystery novels and thrillers. She limits her town visits to after the sun has started setting. Sometimes she's trailed by some strange kids.

—> These kids are her trio of zorua, the offspring of her departed zoroark companion who taught her how to thrive in the woods. She's taken the kits in as her own, acting as a guardian and elder sister to them. She's also adopted a lost phantump who had only recently become a spirit.
—> There are Multiple podcast episodes dedicated to any part of the  mystery surrounding her as a missing persons case and an urban legend, and none have put the right pieces together yet.
—> She gets along with pokemon a lot better than with people, and she's especially fond of the ‘frightening’ sorts of pokemon (ghost and dark  types). She gets pretty overwhelmed by crowds. 

—> She's known the mysterious drifblim who often accompanies her since she left home as a child, though it was only a drifloon then. It doesn't answer to her and will do as it pleases, though it seems fond of her.
—> Helena has more experience in fightfighting than pokemon battling. She has yet to actually have a traditional  battle. And  she hasn’t ‘caught’ her pokemon, so teeeechnically she’s not actually a  trainer. Certainly not a registered one.
—> She doesn’t go looking for fights, but given enough of a cause shes more than ready to get into one and can hold her own
—> She gets very interested in cryptozoology and paranormal studies once she starts understanding them. She finds the stuff about her to be very amusing.
—> She’s just tryin’ to live her best life, man. Any plot she stumbles into is completely unintentional, she would simply like to relax and look after her kids.
—> she’s trans and gay and autistic and very powerful <3
