Gilbert

Gilbert is a man who keeps to himself, always in his own room studying his craft to the point of obsession. He works himself off for days at a time with an unhealthy tendency to never sleep without finishing his artwork first. Its all fuelled by the addiction he has to a sense of self-fulfillment. He only gains a sense of fulfillment when he makes amazing paintings. Worthlessness is his most prevalent emotion. His narcissistic tendency is a mask to protect himself. Without it, Gilbert could never bear to take a step anywhere. He has extreme responses to things that makes him insecure. He will make them disappear at all cost for his own peace.

Gilbert started to seek comfort in the fact that he could draw a better version of real life on canvases. No one is more immersed than he is in his own paintings. Due to his belief that the version of someone in his own painting is surperior, he sees the real one as poignant and would do anything within his ability to get rid of them.

Born into poverty, he was sold by his parents to a cult for three pieces of bronze coins. Gilbert's young age and childhood neglect made him have no sense of self-worth. To earn the approval of the organisation that adopted him, he listened to everything they said. What they told him he was, he is. They told him he was meant to be an angel and he believed it wholeheartedly. He had to be the perfect, flawless and kind being they wanted him to be.

At the age of 17, the very people that praised and loved him humiliated him and stripped him of everything they'd granted to the young avian. He could never understand why. He did everything perfect and was told to have done a great job because of it yet he was rejected once more. He blamed himself for this and believed it was because he failed to be the angel they wanted him to be.

He was rescued after that faithful day. He had to practically build himself up from nothing, taking up all kinds of jobs to earn a living and to support the passion and comfort he found in fine arts. The concept of a Saint that forgived all had always fascinated Gilbert, who developed the delusion that Saint Bartholomew was with him at all times and forgived him for whatever he did. The safety he found in knowing Saint Bartholomew accepted him for all his flaws and loved him played a huge role in his life. He made a lot of paintings depicting Saint Bartholomew which eventually made him known to the art world. This only increased his gratitude and fed his delusions of the Saint being there to bless him at all times.

Gilbert peaked at the young age of 23, having made a name for himself among the art community with his hauntingly immersive protraits. He held many exhibitions with them all being fully booked everytime. He was the target of envy by many for sure- having reached success at such a young age while being the eye-candy of many with his beautiful androgynous appearance. Many supported him. Despite that, he still never felt fulfilled and favoured being holed up in his painting room perfecting his craft months at a time.

There seem to be an increase in certain incidents involving people going missing after visiting Gilbert's gallery. An old friend was sent in to investigate the incident. However, when Bernard saw who it was, he dropped it and even used his authority to cover up what went on, allowing the continuation of these incidents. Generally, people are aware strange things happen in the gallery yet some still visit regardless- maybe they sought to admire the haunting yet exhilirating beauty of the gallery despite the dangers or for the danger, Gilbert welcomes them with open arms.
