Ryuna, Ryuna, Ryuna, what shall we do with you?

Initially brought into the Realm of the Gods as a disciple of Therao's, Ryuna never really fit her place studying beneath the God of the Hunt. She tried her best, and really, considering lionesses tend to be the breadwinners, so to speak, of their prides in the mortal realms, one would think she would be a perfectly capable understudy... but, well, something held her back. No one was quite sure why, but it was obvious that she could be no daughter of the hunt after all.

But hey, if there's one thing we can credit Ryuna for, it's her enthusiasm! For as soon as it became clear that her mentorship beneath Therao wasn't working out, she threw herself into the nearest opportunity she could find, before any of the deities could even begin to discuss taking her memories of her life here and returning her to the mortal realms - Namely, apprenticing beneath Bora, taking on work as a scribe and bookkeeper in his archives.

She... was not particularly good at this, either. Her enthusiasm, well meaning though it might have been, was a bit much for the smilodon, and... well, to be honest, she proved to simply be a bit too scatterbrained to manage the tasks set before her here. For all his patience, Bora was rewarded with several weeks worth of rewriting, rearranging, and reorganizing to do by the time he broke the news to Ryuna about her being let go from the position.

And, let's cut straight to the point: Her attempts after that were similar failures. Trúc claimed that she "disturbed the peace" after her short tenure with him, not helped by her lack of plant-connected powers, or godly powers in general, really. The God of Time, elusive as they can be when not plucking mortals from their realms to join them in the gods in their own, paid her no mind, or at least little enough to not bother approaching her at any point. When approached with the idea of taking her under their wing, Galiene scoffed, replied with something along the lines of "Absolutely not," and disappeared into the tides as quickly as they'd arrived. Altin, Bedi, and especially Cináed were not currently seeking disciples, and made that clear; Mintovo didn't find her antics humorous enough to take her on as one of his (in spite of the recent befriending and "behattening" or a stray chicken she'd somehow found - How did that wind up in the Realm of the Gods, anyway?); Hilal was too busy doting on Menodora... and, well, Tamaya was still unaware of the fact that she had risen to godhood at all.

Truthfully, the only reason Ryuna's not been sent away yet is that she's proven surprisingly good with little ones - Not only her pet hen, but also with Ziya, and the various others who found their way to the deities' realm as children. Bora half considered having her sent away to Earth to help Amara out with Berkeley. Had she been something smaller and less conspicuous, like a cat or a fox, he might have actually gone through with it. But for now, she's staying in this place of power, taking on the role of... a sort of godly babysitter.

Hey, maybe it'll get her somewhere in time.

Trivia

  • Ryuna and her chicken were inspired by an old buff orpington chicken of mine, who as a pullet jumped onto my head and attempted to be worn as a hat - Her name is an anagram of that chicken's, who was named for the goddess Nayru from the Legend of Zelda, alongside her sisters named after Din and Farore. Ryuna's own chicken is named Eforra, an anagram of Farore.
  • Some of the youths around the Realm of the Gods, especially the young cubs, pups, and kittens, struggle with pronouncing Ryuna's name properly - She's tried on several occasions to correct them and teach them properly, but eventually she got tired of it, and since then has allowed them to drop the R from her name and just call her Yuna for ease of convenience. They'll figure it out in time, surely.
