Jack comes from a rich family and is the eldest of five children. After his father's death Jack is required to become the head of his family. Part of that arrangement is that he has to marry in order to recieve his title. Jack's mother arranges a marraige for him, which he ultimately refuses. Instead, Jack offers the title to his younger brother who gladly accepts. Soon after learning of his brothers marriage arrangement, Jack leaves home and buys a ship with money that he had saved. Jack eventually meets his crew and travels with them across the ocean. While visiting his home island, Jack runs into a panicked Violet, who asks him to take her with him in order to escape her aranged wedding. Jack complies with Violet's request since he was in a similar position. He promises to protect her from her family and takes her with him on his travels. Eventually, Jack and Violet both learn that her fiance is in fact Jack's younger brother. After a few years of travelling together, Jack and Violet end up as a couple. Every now and then they visit their former home to visit Violet's older brother.
