story
The real story for Elijah begins after his death.
When he dies he's brought to a completely new world. Different than the one he was used to, the new place is ruled by its own strange laws. This afterlife was meant to be spent by making amends for his past life's wrongdoings (the background story for Elijah's initial life isn't well known, but it's a fact that he was an awful person in his adult years).
He learnt to accept his new disposition and overconsumed with guilt of his former crimes, he was trying his best to improve himself. He knew that just like everyone else who was given a second chance in this world, he too would have to measure up to the punishment which awaited him. Of course, unprepared for what was really to come, he was met with an unfair judgement that broke him thoroughly.
This punishment - a curse. Destined to be alienated from everyone, he was meant to acquire an irresistible urge to literally eat anyone who he'd get emotionally involved with.
The judgement that was cast on Elijah was done by a Judge who was already predestined to decide his fate. A Judge who, unluckily and one-sidedly, fell in love with Elijah and in his own jealousy passed this damnating curse on him, only to make sure that his love interest would never dedicate himself to anyone, ever. Ironically, Elijah eventually developed feelings for the Judge and ended up devouring him instead. After that Elijah went mad and isolated himself from the outside world in fear of losing anyone else.
Since then he's to suffer from continuous loneliness in his own insanity for the rest of eternity. At least, until maybe some other Judge, favoring him with pity, would change that fate.

♦ after some time from being sentenced with his curse, he developed some sort of sado-masochistic tendencies to hurt himself and his beloved ones, along with an independent need to consume human flesh as a way to cope with the pain of killing,
