Hoarfrost's Lament
Words Frozen Over Like Ice
Have you been to Paperends before? It's a bookshop tucked away in the shopping district in the Court of Fontaine. I hear it's only ran by two people, but the co-owner is quite the handsome man. Oh please, Melus, I'm not going over there to ask for his hand in marriage!
— Navia, the president of the Spina di Rosula
A relaxing atmosphere, the scent of chamomile wafts through the bookshop, putting customers at ease as they search through the bookshelves to find what they need. Ranging from history books, recipes, poetry, Paperends has it all.
Behind the counter is the co-owner — a quiet, but friendly man who many in Fontaine seem to fancy, despite nobody ever truly knowing who he is. Many a time the elderly owner of the bookshop has to chase out a suitor or two, tiredly claiming he's much too busy to respond to their proposals.
As beautiful and as regal as he may look, the man is a mystery — not a Fontaine-born but hailing from Snezhnaya, but he seems to avoid speaking of his birth region as much as he can. He stays withdrawn and declines the invitations sent by the Iudex (at Lady Furina's request) to join in the festivities whenever a holiday falls upon Fontaine. Despite these incredible connections he has, Istina would prefer to stay by himself.
And yet at night, Istina will travel outside of the Court of Fontaine on his own, looking off in the direction where Snezhnaya resides — a forlorn look on his face. Perhaps the world will never know what pushed him to leave his home region.
When Istina turns away to leave, the ice cracks under his feet.

Personality
Kindness.
Istina doesn't look the most approachable, but he is still a very kind and welcoming man. He hopes everyone can find what they're looking for at the bookshop. He's not very talkative, but he doesn't mind listening to the more chatty sort that come into the bookshop - as long as they buy something at some point.
Wisdom.
Istina is incredibly wise, almost like he always knows just what to say, when something may happen. You could call him a mind reader, but he would say otherwise. In truth, he pays close attention to his surroundings and is hyper-aware of the shift in the atmosphere the second it happens.
Cunning.
Because of his gentle nature, plenty of people don't suspect Istina having a manipulative bone in his body. But that in itself is manipulation - Istina knows how to carry himself, how to talk and how to appear as someone harmless. The truth is, if there's information Istina wants, he will be able to get it.
Bluntness.
Istina can be very direct. With his children he will try to be a bit softer, more gentle. This is because he knows of their upbringings and the hardships they faced, so he knows he has to approach them differently. With people outside of that however, he will speak his mind without fear of the consequences.
Kingly.
Istina carries the air of a king, even if he no longer has a throne of his own. He is regal and elegant, from how he speaks to how he sits. He is a proper man, even if he has ulterior motives and tricks up his sleeve.
Secretive.
For someone who runs a bookshop, Istina is not a very open man. He keeps much of his life private - which, is normal of course. But it's almost like he's an enigma in Fontaine, to the point where many Fontanians don't know or remember when he even first came to the region of Hydro.

"My little assistant? Yes, they're a bit of a.. skittish kitten, I would say. Regardless, they're a great help around the shop and at home, even if they can act rather stubborn. But I suppose all children have their moments, do they not? Hm. If they give you trouble, just ask about Vani. That's what I always do."
Zhongli
[ ?? ]
"... He was quite a strong God, that much I remember. However, I could never find myself comfortable in his presence, as rare as that may have been. You say he goes by the name Zhongli now? I see. ... Would you do me the kindness of never mentioning my name when you're in his company? I.. would prefer to only a memory he will soon forget."
Venti

"Yes, I do remember him. He was quite invasive, much like the weeds that stubbornly grew through the snow and ice. Though, do not mistake my words for disdain. I feel that someone so free-spirited as that is worthy of his titles... I only hope he can understand my actions."
