Delia (Backstory)

Zarkadi

Profile

Delia doesn't recall much of her childhood. She remembers being alone and scavenging for things to eat, and playing hide-and-seek in city ruins after sundown. There were friends of her age helping out, but she doesn't remember their names. She recalls vague moments like when they didn't let her play the movie star, or when a boy fell and cut open his eyebrow so there was blood everywhere.
Her stockings were still white when she collapsed paralyzing fear in front of a mutated fiend. In a stroke of luck for Delia it was the last survivor of its pack, and had recently lost its child. The still active maternal hormones in the hulking figure caused it to adopt her rather than kill her on the spot. She doesn't recall much of that time either; she'd feel warm and safe as rain drummed on a metal roof, she'd cry for no reason and receive an encouraging shove. Despite large and beast-like, her guardian was intelligent - capable of speech and very fitted to survive in the wastelands. She would learn a lot of her instincts from this time.

However, then came the point of her 'abandon'. The fiend told her that ultimately they were too different and that Delia would thrive more in a community of humans. Delia cried and opposed it, but in the end a caravan of human traders spotted the duo. Her guardian staged a fake attack on the kid, then ran away when the ruse worked.
Delia followed the caravan a few years, then decided to stay in a settlement where she had a fling with one of the outpost guards - and probably half a dozen others within her stay. She stayed rootless, as well as ruthless, learning how to use firearms in self-defense.

She eventually moved on, doing odd jobs here and there, attaching herself to figures in power and letting them let her down each time. Formed attractions would mostly be surface-leveled and not many could relate to her experiences in growing up, her above-average intellect, her abandonment-issues, and constant testing of relationships. If those traits weren't enough to break relations, jealousy in others eventually would be.

As she grew older, and wiser from a lot of bad experiences, she eventually decided to track down her old caretaker. It took her close to a year of stubborness before the fiend revealed itself to her again. Delia declared that she refused any other host.
