Evans grew up in a famous family, prided for their musical talent. He was born as a weapon, alongside his brother who often overshadowed him. Evans was looked down upon for being less talented and confident than his older brother. After discovering his weapon form as a scythe, he abandoned the lifestyle his family wanted him to conform to, and enrolled in the DWMA. There he trained to become a death weapon alongside his partner, Maka.

Evans is very laid-back and sometimes arrogant, not making the smartest decisions at times. He is extremely loyal to those he cares about, especially his meister Maka who he'd sacrifice himself for. While he has trouble showing weakness, he is brave and determined, as well as supportive of his partner. Evans is a quick thinker, being able to make decisions on the fly in tense situations.
