A sickly young boy who does his best to survive this ruthless world. All he wishes is to be remembered, but with such little time left, he instead leaves a little bit of himself onto these black films, Hoping that someday someone would see the world around them the same way he did.

- Small and fragile, his curly chocolate brown locks frame his pale face as deep brown eyes often wistfully watch the world around him.
- More often than not covered in white bandages with speckles of blue and purple dusting his thin fingers, he looks as if the slightest force could break him.

After his parents’ death at the age of 5, he was taken in by Nao but was soon forced to live with his distant relatives, his aunt and uncle. They later had their own child named Youichi, who is surprisingly attached to Mao and looks up to him as an older brother.
His relatives are abusive and cold towards Mao and often turns towards violence to force out money from his child funds/medical funds/Parent’s will (When it comes to Mao’s health, money is allowed to be withdrawn) to compensate for their poor income or for other expenses.
Mao visits the hospital often for check-ups after he has been diagnosed with an incurable illness which eats away at his body slowly. He has been told that he doesn't have much longer to live. He’s usually invisible to others, blends in well with crowds, doesn’t have a large presence, but he stays quiet intentionally in fear of being forgotten by people he has contact with, but is also in conflict with not being recognised.
In class he’s considered as that one quiet kid, the sick kid, the kid who’s always hurt in some way and they believe it to be from his clumsiness, illness or le class bully. Teachers are wary of his situation at home though no definite proof is found, so they usually pretend not to see when Mao slips up or nods off during class.
Mao's cousin who passed away young (at least, in this canon).
Mao's childhood acquaintance whom he used to live with together temporarily when he was under Nao's care. Sei, albeit looking intimidating and skillful with his sharp retorts, deeply cared for Mao.
Sei's best friend who Mao became acquainted with as he lived with Sei when young. Kou seems to know a lot more than he lets on as his knowing gaze seems to linger on the small boy's fleeting figure.
