otsdam (ポツダム, Potsudamu) is a fan-made character of the series Hetalia (but works well in other universes too). He represents Potsdam, a city in Germany, a capital of Brandenburg state. His human name is Gabriel Wilhelm Voß (ガブリエルヴィルヘ ルムフォス, Gaburieru Vu~iruherumu Fosu).

Gabriel is pretty tall, young man with short, spiky, strawberry blond hair and amber eyes.

Etymology:
City name:
The name "Potsdam" originally seems to have been Poztupimi. A common theory is that it derives from an old West Slavonic term meaning "beneath the oaks", i.e., the corrupted pod dubmi/dubimi (pod "beneath", dub "oak"). However, some question this explanation.
Human name:
- Gabriel is a given name derived from the Hebrew name Gaḇrīʾēl (גַבְרִיאֵל) meaning "God is my strength".
- Wilhelm is a German given name, and a cognate of the English name William meaning "will or desire" and "helmet, protection".
- Voß is a German surname, meaning "fox" in Low German.

- His interest in cinematography is a reference to Babelsberg Film Studio - the oldest large-scale film studio in the world located in Potsdam-Babelsberg.
- Name Gabriel was chosen pretty randomly, however there's a reason behind Wilhelm - Many of the rulers of Prussia from the Hohenzollern dynasty had it as the first or second name.
- His birthday is on July 3, because 3rd July 993 is the date of first documented mention of Potsdam.
I. Personality
Gabriel is rather a composed person as he always tries to keep it cool, though there are few kinds of people which makes him irritated extremly easily. He is very reasonable and careful about making decisions. He always debates the pros and cons first. He takes pride in his present as well as his past (as a 'second capital') and has big ambitions for the future. He also has no issues with duties - he does what he has to do. He knows great things need time to grow.
He is not afraid to have his own opinion and often does not mince words, however sometimes he prefers to keep quiet, especially when the conversation or criticism is pointless. He's not narrow-minded, but definietly stubborn. He has lots of knowladge and he's very cultured, which is something he likes to show and see.
Being the royal's residence has made him sort of spoiled, while losing this title - somewhat envious. It wasn't expected as he always seemed to be rather selfless and free of jealousy. Those are two of his negative triats, he tries to hide and not admit.
You can see him with his camera nearly always. He loves to record and has an extremly huge amount of videos and photos. Because of his habit of taking so many photos and videos, some say he "forgot how to enjoy the moment", what he completly disagrees with.
II. History of the city
Potsdam was first mentioned in a document in 993 as Poztupimi, when Emperor Otto III gifted the territory to the Quedlinburg Abbey. By 1317, it was mentioned as a small town. It gained its town charter in 1345. In the years 1373–1415 the town was under the rule of the Kingdom of Bohemia. In 1573, it was still a small market town of 2,000 inhabitants.
