Childhood

Tom grew up an only child with his mother and father in a small arctic continent named Daor. His mother was busy traveling for work, and Tom seldom saw her. His father owned a local guild which he wanted Tom to join when he was old enough. This guild was essentially the law of the land, well-known throughout Daor. His father taught Tom about morality, diplomacy, and combat. Anything he could need to join the guild, he would be taught.

Growing up, Tom aspired to be an artist. He loved drawing with charcoal chalks his mother sent him. He'd normally sneak out of his home and draw people from the side of the street. He naturally improved doing this for years.

Early Adulthood

His father's training got more aggressive as Tom grew, and every passing day Tom gained more disdain for it. He didn't understand why his father wanted him to train so much. Often he had bloodied himself to keep up with his father.

On his 20th birthday, the day he was eligible to join the guild, he left home after a fight with his father. It was a terrible blizzard, but Tom endured until he arrived in a neighboring town named Areti. Here he met some fishermen who supported and employed him.

Tom spent 2 years in Areti gaining enough money to travel to Eerie. His childhood dream of being an artist had long been stomped and he just wanted to live in a place where his family (namely his father) wouldn't find him. He dreamed of a nice house in a warm place with a cherry tree and good friends surrounding him. Somewhere near a lake so he could catch fresh fish, somewhere without an awful lot of people.

His hand began to sting, it was visually swollen. But what he found was a tattoo-like marking. He didn't know what to do with it, but he carried on since it didn't seem to cause him many problems. The pain healed and all that was left was a marking, as if someone gave him a tattoo in his sleep. It was visually appealing so he didn't mind it, but he never knew why it was there until on fateful day.

Becoming Cursed

Tom has a soft spot for all things on four legs. He always wanted a pet growing up, but never had the guts to ask his parents about getting one. He found a dog on the streets of Areti and named her Val. He would always see her when he carried fish from the bay to the market, and he would find any chance he could to feed her some fish when he was cooking it. One day he found her injured, seemingly attacked by another dog. He examined her wounds, she wasn't looking too hot. As he inspected her he felt a sensation in his hand, like he was about to shiver. As he focused on it, it began to glow a warm yellow light. The light enveloped Val and slowly but surely, her wounds faded into healthy skin. From this day forward, Tom kept Val close to his side to protect her from predators, and began understanding the special marking on his hand.

On his third year of arriving to Areti, Tom was caught in the middle of a mission from other "cursed" people. After helping some special newbies to the Branches finish their mission safely, he was invited to join the Branches himself. The rest is history.

Tom is a introverted man with a just outlook on life. He is a pacifist by heart, although he is content with how his life plays out. If something is beyond himself, he will not let it affect him.
