Originally sent to Earth to help with Pink Diamond's colony, Cuprite was swept up in the chaos created by the Rebellion. She eventually stumbled into Chrysocolla who, over time, fell in love with her. They remained together, often fused as Sonora Sunset.
The two opened their home to refugee Gems and formed the Astro Gems. Cuprite acted as the group's cheerleader, continuously encouraging and supporting its members.
During Era 3, she became a teacher at Little Homeworld.
Design
Notes
- Cuprite is always floating.
- The bottom half of Cuprite has a glassy texture.
- She can rotate her head, body, and arms at a 360-degree angle. She can also turn them individually. She often does this when she changes facial expressions or experiences high levels of specific emotions, such as happiness or anger.
- Cuprite has a large overbite.
Personality
Cuprite is a chipper and imaginative Gem. Normally in high spirits, she often acts as the emotional anchor. She always knows what's the right thing to say to cheer someone up or reduce their worries. Cuprite is a hopeful Gem, fully believing others can change and seeing their potential.
She's very charismatic and chatty, rarely seen without a bright smile.
Innovative, Cuprite always thinks outside of the box when it comes to solving problems, and she's very confident about her ideas. A lot of the time, Cuprite is jokey and fun to be around, but she also has a small fuse.
While she is primarily calm, conflict and fighting make her anxious. So she avoids any signs of it as much as she can until the problem becomes out of control.

Skillsets
- Skilled Craftsmanship: Being a former construction painter, Cuprite has basic knowledge of construction and advanced artistical skills.
Special Abilities
- Levitation: Cuprite is able to levitate off the ground thanks to a small red sphere underneath her body.
- Floating Limbs: While not being attached to her body, Cuprite can move her hands and head. However, she limits how far she can stretch them from her body without dissipating her physical form.
- Chromatokinesis: Using her Gemstone, Cuprite can shine a bright light beam that can turn inorganic objects red or pink. This includes Gems, but the color will eventually fade away, and the Gem will regain their natural color.
History
Cuprite was created for the development of Pink Diamond's colony. Her role was a construction painter: she was in charge of coloring architecture pink and/or red per the wants of the designer and Pink Diamond. Assigned to a morganite, she headed to Earth with a team of other builder-type Gems.
Cuprite's work remained undisturbed, even during the early years of the Rebellion. Coincidentally, she was located near the Storm Tower, where Chrysocolla was stationed. The weather oddities that happened there and the mystery surrounding its occupant was a common talking point among the other workers, including Cuprite herself, to keep their minds off about Rose Quartz.
Inevitably, the Crystal Gems stormed the work site. Cuprite managed to escape and fled into the wilderness. While trying to find safety, she stumbled into Chrysocolla, who convinced her she wasn't a part of the Rebellion. The two made a plan to find the nearest warp pad and find help. However, they discovered that it and the surrounding location became occupied by the Crystal Gems. Cuprite knew of a Gem stronghold to the south of them and suggested finding help there.
While traveling together, Cuprite's perspective about her life changed. She grew to appreciate the Earth and its many oddities. After learning and spending time with the mysterious Chrysocolla, she fell in love with her and Cuprite's feelings were reciprocated. At some point, they fused into Sonora Sunset, and both realized they couldn't go back to the Gem Empire but fighting with the Rebellion was also too dangerous. So they found a cave along a cliffside and stayed there for the remainder of the war.
Chrysocolla received a transmission about an immediate evacuation of Earth. Noticing that her partner was visibly anxious, Curpite assured her they would be fine and suggested that they could seal their cave so they'd be safe from whatever would happen next. Because of this, they unknowingly avoided the effects of the Corrupting Light.
Despite encountering an occasional corrupted Gem every now and again, the two lived peaceful lives. They unsealed their cave and continued to love and appreciate the world around them as themselves and Sonora Sunset. They also traveled around nearby areas, collecting supplies from abandoned ancient Gem settlements.
One day, a critically injured Gem named Fire Agate dragged herself to their cave, completely engulfed in flames. Chrysocolla managed to douse it out so Cuprite could heal the agate's gemstone using ancient Gem tech. After finding out Fire Agate was a Gem War veteran and catching her up with current events, Cuprite offered their home to her. When they discovered another Gem, Imperial Zircon, she named their group the Astro Gems.
However, Fire Agate created a lot of tension within the group. Cuprite became uncomfortable with the agate's overprotectiveness and reluctance to fully accept her as Sonora Sunset. One particular incident became the breaking point, and the Astro Gems decided to kick Fire Agate out. After she left, Cuprite and others remained in their cave until Era 3.
With the introduction of Little Homeworld, the Astro Gems were disbanded. Cuprite attended, graduated, and started working there as a teacher. She, Chrysocolla, and Sonora Sunset taught about Earth's climate and weather safety.
Relationships
Chrysocolla
Cuprite's romantic partner. She developed feelings for Chrysocolla over a long time and was one of the reasons why she also fell in love with the Earth. She helps keep Chrysocolla grounded when her anxiety bubbles up and gets her motivated. They've been together for thousands of years, and as Sonora Sunset, a personification of their love.
Imperial Zircon
Cuprite is great friends with Imperial Zircon, who she affectionately calls Izzy. She often encourages her to come out of her shell and admires Zircon's intelligence.
Fire Agate
Cuprite was at first thankful for Fire Agate with her willingness to help and teach her how to defend herself. However, the agate struggled with her issues. It grew into an overprotective nature that became overbearing for Cuprite and the others. Despite how hard she tried to convince her, Cuprite was personally bothered that Fire Agate couldn't fully understand Sonora Sunset. She still believed Fire Agate could turn around but was also aware she was creating a toxic environment for the group. Cuprite is still sad about her leaving.
The Crystal Gems
Despite what happened during the Gem Rebellion, Cuprite had no ill-will towards the Crystal Gems. On the contrary, spending time on Earth and with Chrysocolla changed her opinion about them and sympathized with their cause. She was happy to discover that they survived and eagerly joined Little Homeworld as a student and, eventually, a teacher. She is particularly friendly with Amethyst and Garnet (as well as Ruby and Sapphire).
