Liris was born in the Denerim alienage to a city elf named Elorill Surana, on the 9th of Cloudreach in the year 9:08 Dragon. Her father, Revas Silvhen, was a Dalish mage who was sadly not a part of her young life while in the city.

He met Elorill the year prior while he was wandering closely to the outskirt of Denerim, and she was out scavenging for food. His clan had set up their caravan not terribly far, and being a curious young elf, he wanted to see a shem city for himself. There he found something even more astounding: a beautiful young elf woman. The two grew close fairly quickly and soon fell in love. Revas would sneak out of his camp late at night, and Elorill carefully crept out of the alienage after curfew, just so they could visit each other.

Not long after their love blossomed, Liris was conceived. The two were ecstatic. Unfortunately for the young lovers, a few scouts from Denerim had discovered the Yonwyn caravan, and were forcing the Dalish clan to move elsewhere less they wanted trouble. Revas begged his Keeper to let him bring his love with them, but the Keeper refused to allow a “flat-ear” stranger join the nomadic elves. Revas was bound by his obligation as the First, and was forced to leave a pregnant Elorill behind.

From a very young age, Liris showed an aptitude for magic like her father had. Elorill first noticed her daughter’s mage abilities when she found Liris prodding a lifeless mouse with her finger. The thing is, tiny flashes of electricity jumped from her fingertip to the mouse’s body. A few seconds later the mouse sprung up and scurried away.

Most children who have a gift of magic are whisked away as young as possible to be taken into one of the Circles of Magi. But her mother did her best to hide Liris’s talent, for fear of losing her daughter for good.

The sad day came when Liris was 11 years old, and Denerim authorities found her lighting a fire-pit without so much as touching the logs. She was torn from her mother and transported to Ferelden’s Circle tower on Lake Calenhad. There she would spend the remainder of her days studying to be a mage under the Chantry’s iron thumb.

When Liris was 22, she took the ultimate apprentice magi test known as the Harrowing. In it, she would be expected to enter the Fade, find a demon, slay it, and return to the waking world alive. Once completed, Liris would become a full-fledged Mage. Little did she know that the day after her Harrowing she would meet a man by the name of Duncan, and her life would change forever.

Despite the fact that Liris is best known as the Hero of Ferelden, the darkspawn-slaying staff-wielding badass, she is really just a happy little mage muffin who got caught up in the Blight and was at the wrong place at the wrong time. She hates that she is held up on a pedestal. She loves working as the Warden-Commander and doesn’t mind that title, but prefers people abstain from calling her “Hero of Ferelden”. There were too many people who helped to stop the Blight to put the credit all to one person.

The Warden-Commander hopes one day to make a homestead for herself in the Dales, where she can be free to raise halla and grow herbs and plants until her Calling does her in. And maybe somewhere along the way find someone to live on the homestead by her side. Man, woman, in-between, doesn’t matter to her. She wants someone who will love her as she loves them to be her lifelong companion.
