Esther's Comments

I wasn't going to write for any of these, but gosh this one is so pretty and I really like the idea I've come up with!

Esther lives in the far future, when cities now take up entire states (in the US at least). Sprinkled in some parts between the cities, are small tribes known as "Outsiders". Esther was born to one of these, the product of many years of heavy superstitions. The people of these outside clans are often very primitive, lacking the same technology or skills as those in a city. Because of this, they believe the sparkling cities of flying cars and robots are a place of magic. And they wish to harness it. Thus begins the tribes many years of bizarre sacrifices and rituals. And after almost 60 years, the oldest of the group passing the tradition, they finally received in the form of a child born with hair as light as the morning sun.

As guessed, this child was Esther. Immediately believing this strange birth to be the chosen one they had been waiting for, the elders took Esther to teach and observe her. She received her tattoos/markings at a young age, as soon as she was old enough to speak. These markings, plus the ritualistic activities, caused something in the young girl to change and open, allowing the power that flowed through the city to enter her as if she were a vessel for it. She was raised by the tribe elders, being taught their history, or what they believed of it anyway, and traditions. The elders tried hard to manipulate and understand what the young girl claimed to be seeing and hearing, calling them visions sent from their god. In reality, she was likely viewing security footage coming from the city, as she was now basically a plugin for it.

Like the elders had dreamed to achieve by this, Esther's newfound connection with the city's power allowed their own more simple tech to be powered. She grew up being referred to Oculi Mei, or My Eyes in latin. She is loved and feared as though a creature from heaven rather than a human being, which she knows isn't right. Still, she tries to live up to her expectations, giving power to simple items and answering when asked about her "visions". Though her condition does not induce physical harm, the mental strain is often crippling.

She is a very kind and sweet girl, that would like to help her fellow Outsiders in the ways they want. She doesn't understand why she has these abilities, or how to use them, but if she knows one thing, the answers are in the tall skyscrapers and lights in the sky. Her only dream is to go to the city, to experience and learn about everything that she sees in her mind.

Okay that ended up being WAY more than I thought, but thank you for taking the time to read it! These are the other characters I have uploaded for this world, if you wanted to check. Or something.
