Etienne Delacroix

A priest. Once a devout follower of God, Etienne lost his way due to some sort of personal trauma (note: do more research on the effect of the Napoleonic era on the Clergy and find something appropriate).

Seduced (Not literally? Possibly literally?) into life on the sea by Lucien, who believed having a holy man on board would be good for the morale of the crew, sea men being typically suspicious types. Despite Etienne struggling with his faith at the time, he agreed to go, perhaps hoping to learn of some kind of sign that his devotion over the years to his practice hadn’t been for nothing.

Dark hair, can be read as black from a distance. Often lank looking, perhaps a little scraggly. Shoulder length when loose, more often pulled back in a loose ribbon. Thick eyebrows over dark eyes that are usually cool and suspicious. A fire and brimstone kind of preacher, not the comforting kind. Tall, but in a lanky, almost unhealthy looking way. Thin. Beard to match his hair, though greying earlier. Physically frail, his strength is in his emotions. Lucien likes to describe him as 'rattish' (perhaps due to a shifty demeanour or a longish face or both). His back is covered in scars from self-inflicted flagellation.
