Rosalie was one of Raphael's many lovers, but she was quite different from the others. Rosalie was the only one Raphael truly fell in love with. Because of this, he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, and they had both agreed to convert Rosalie into a demon, despite the risks. Converting a human into a demon invovles transferring demon blood into their bloodstream, takes a lot of time, and causes the human to get very sick between doses. If the dose is too strong, it will kill them. Tragically, this is what happened to Rosalie. After trying to speed up the process, Rosalie became extremely ill and couldn't take it, and she died. Raphael was devastated, and he hasn't really been the same since.
