anyway this is korou his clan are basically themed around sea wolves - basically pirates who travel in packs with big fuckin wolves on the ocean
they are officially whirlpool's problem despite. not actually living in whirlpool half the time
their bloodline thing is essentially "pack bonds" where each member of the clan is connected to their closest family/friends as well as the leader. this puts IMMENSE strain on the leader, who has to maintain bonds with literally everyone and can only be done by specific "chosen" kids, who are identified at their birth as the next leader. this often runs in the current leader's bloodline but is v possible for a random kiddo to be born the next leader as well
theoretically they CAN bond with people outside of the clan, but if the person is post-puberty it's only a one-way bond and very shallow. If they catch 'em early, when the brain is still developing, it is possible for an outsider to have the Kawakami "bloodline" "passed" onto them - the general rule of thumb is anyone under the age of four but it has been known to happen for older kiddos in some circumstances, though it can really fuck you up if your brain rejects it.
the kawakami have a long history of adoption (some clans might call it "bloodline theft" but in the Kawakami's defense, if the kid was left along that means they're just asking to be adopted). You can usually tell who is a "born" Kawakami by the fangs though - born Kawakami, even to adopted in kiddos, are born with wolf teeth
Korou is the next leader-to-be for his clan, following in his grandmother's (Nana Kawakami) footsteps.
