Salem is a chairperson on the committee but does not run a faction, instead focusing her efforts on the science surrounding the rifts. She believes understanding the natural world and how to coexist with it is essential, but worries that the board will inhibit this exploration in the name of safety and their fear of the unknown. Salem works with outsiders to gain information and spends most of her time working while still carrying an appreciation for the people in her life. She is restless and always needs to be thinking about something, furthering the knowledge in the world or tinkering, and when she puts her mind to something it's hard to stop her.
