Zachariah O'Conner

Star-rice

Profile

Just a note for anyone inquiring (also to myself). Zach's biological sex is female and he's a strange cardinal colormorph (only visible in females). This abnormality is the same realm of thought as leucism  (absence of dark/black pigments). Instead of the absence of dark pigments, however, Zach has an absence of the buff colored pigments  (called phaeomelanins making him non-phaeomalanistic). He still retains  his black and red pigments, however, producing his grey and red coloration. If he were biologically male, none of this would be visible as male cardinals are just red and black. There are no buff pigments to lack.

Article where the pigments and lack therof are discussed and illustrated (including non-phaeomelanism)

Non-phaeomalanism is very rare but there are documented cases of them:
