Overview

Belinda is used to a world that is larger than her. As a resident of the mouse village of Camomille, she understands that excursions into the human house her home lies under and adjacent to are necessary for their continued survival and way of life. Her beloved older cousin Nicolai was one of the brave mice who went on those adventures.

Was.

The greatest threat to the mice is the Cat. Belinda was unlucky enough to have followed him on a supply run when the cat caught him. He protected her. He allowed her to escape.

Despite the concerned objections of her family, Belinda continues making the necessary supply runs. She wields a sewing needle sword and a button shield, taught combat by her dear cousin. She honors his memory—and she seeks vengeance in his name. Though generally mild-mannered, sweet and polite, the sort to always gently ask "how do you do" with a sweet little curtsey, to huff and puff "well they weren't very nice" in the aftermath of a less than kind encounter, an anger remains within her. The mice of Camomille will only be safe if the cat is slain.

And when the cat flees from her, when she chases it, when the cat slips in the gaps between the multiverse and Belinda follows—only then will Belinda begin to realize how far her quest and her world extend beyond her.

World Info

Belinda's home world is the mouse village of Camomille, which spans underground tunnels beneath the human home, includes the walls and nooks and crannies of it, and extends into the nearby forest. The mice make their own way, supplementing much of their lifestyle by stealing bits and baubles from the human home—think of The Borrowers. Their existence is mostly a cozy, peaceful one; the greatest threat to them is the cat, who lives in the human home and has killed those who adventure into it before. Still, these excursions are necessary to maintain survival and Camomille's way of life, so they continue.

The Grand Stair is where she's ended up. A brilliant staircase that houses the multiverse, the Grand Stair contains hundreds upon thousands upon infinite doors that lead to and from infinte worlds. Only some have the power of Wayfinding, an ingrained ability that allows one to enter, leave, and navigate the Grand Stair. Belinda found out about this power accidentally, but now that she has realized it and learned of the Grand Stair, she won't be taken away from it so easily.

Appearance Notes

Please use this piece as a main reference! Her main outfit is the pink dress.

  • Belinda's outfit can always be changed, so long as they fit her cottagecore aesthetic.
  • While technically pink tails are more of a rat thing, and Belinda is a mouse, they're common enough in stylized art of mice that it's fine if you draw her tail pink or brown!
  • Belinda's accessories (her needle, button, and bag) are not necessary in drawings of her.
  • When drawing Belinda and other characters, please remember that she is the size of just a regular little mouse!

Nicolai

Belinda's late older cousin. Growing up so near to each other, they were more akin to siblings. Nicolai taught her swordplay, guided her in adventures through the human home, and ultimately died protecting her. They spatted sometimes as siblings and their ilk do, but loved each other dearly, and Belinda will always feel his absence.

Cats
  • The Marquess. Though certainly not an object, rarely is Belinda seen without the cardinal who acts as her mighty steed. He is unable to communicate verbally—he is to her as a horse would be to us—but the two understand each other quite well, and Belinda is able to pull off all sorts of impressive tricks from his back.
  • Sewing Needle. Her mighty sword!
  • Button. Her stalwart shield!
  • Thread. A spool of thread, held at the side of her cardinal's saddle. Durable and nigh-infinite, she uses it to perform all kinds of tricks from the air.
