Personality
cold . bitchy . calculated
Airen'fell was hardly what you could call friendly- the Patron wasn't one for conversation, his line of duty keeping him alone and isolated for most of his time. When he is around others, the Prince is quiet, snappy and upfront.
Not afraid to speak his mind, if Airen thinks you're wrong, he'll TELL you you're wrong, and give five scientific papers proving his point. Despite coming across as though he thinks with his blade, the Prince is very calculated, and only speaks after careful consideration.
Premise
ARC I. Airen'fell is the only patron, and the protector of the portal to the afterlife.
ARC II. The Cataclysm takes place, causing the formation of the mortal realms and the creation of the void. Its corruption causes Airen'fell to lose his right leg.
ARC III. After mortals were given the gift of magic, Airen'fell became the Patron of Nyxys, and slowly grew more cold as years passed.
ARC IV. *Coming soon!*
(i cant think of a title)
Airen'fell was born from a God soul itself, the Overseer of the Afterlife Keimarr crafting his own son to aid him in the protection of the mortal lives that resided in the haven he oversaw. The first Patron's job was simple; guard the gates, protect the good souls, and kill any that reeked of corruption. This was Airen'fell's job for centuries - he knew nothing but the blade, nothing but death, only how to kill, only TO kill.
Not that the Patron minded, of course. Every being in Celestia had its dedicated job and duty - he was preforming his flawlessly, and no harm had come to the fragile mortal souls that resided within the safe haven of Keimarr's watchful eye for the duration of Airen'fell's protection of them. When he did give his duty a break, Keimarr as kind and fair to him, and really made the young Prince feel like he belonged. He had a noble duty. He had a loving father. He had purpose.
Contradictary to his later aggression and coldness, the younger Airen'fell was rather soft. Kindly spoken, considerate and nearly shy.
Echoes of a Broken Moon
Life in celestia wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, though. In Keimarr's little shut off corner of the place, things were quiet and, dare say, peaceful. But the rest of Celestia was in damned near turmoil, with the God of Knowledge turning on the mortals he was supposed to protect. Driven mad by some sort of unknowing force, the God sought to destroy the mortal plain.
The God was nearly successful, too, until celestia called upon Keimarr and his Patron's aid. Erynn'thyaasys, the Goddess of Time, had a plan to rescue the mortals, but needed the expertese of someone who could alter the very matter of souls. Something only Airen'fell could do. Despite knowing the risks, Airen agreed to the plan, and used his blade Soulreynnd to extract Erynn's soul, binding it to the broken plain, her dying breath being expended to ensure the survival of the mortals, forming the realms. Her celestial essence provided a magical barrier that protected the realms from the vile corruption of the void.
To say the matter went smoothly would be a horrendous oversight, however. The void, being the reminants of the dead Knowledge God's soul, was incredibly corrosive, and Airen'fell's direct and prolongued exposure to it took its took, and it did so very quickly. The void's dark grasp took his leg, its corruption eating away at the prince's flesh.
The worst injuries were the ones that nobody could see. The ones that wouldn't show themselves until it was too late.
Bandaids Over a Knife Wound
With there being little hope of Airen'fell surviving the Cataclysm, the Gods had to act quickly. The prince was in very bad shape, which left the gates to the afterlife all but unguarded. Which, due to the amount of mortal lives lost during the destruction and reformation of their realm, meant that corrupt souls could easily gain access to afterlife. Not to mention, the mortals had nearly all of society to rebuild, and they would need help.
So, enter the New Patrons. Created from slivers of the Gods' souls, they were crafted in the same way Airen'fell was; a dedicated purpose, a duty, but also... as overseers, of the newly formed realms. As protectors, who could look over their new mortal people. As providers, who now sourced magical abilities into their blood.

seethe... and bend to my will, lest i crush you myself
A strong, pure form of magic, not relying on elemental skills to be used. With a focus more on manipulation than harnessing magic itself, Eclypsys can be used for levitation, warping and crushing.
mortal souls suffer from fragility, even in death. it is my duty to preserve them, lest the whispers of darkness consume them again
The blade crafted from a fragment of his own soul, Soulreynnd is Airen'fell's celestial weapon, and the harvester of souls. It draws in the essence of those he kills, containing it until their soul can be extracted into soul crystals.
if ever you face ruin, heed my call. my wings will be your lifeline. my breath will be your life. my heart will be your hope
A form all patrons can take on; that of an elegant, long bodied dragon, glowing with celestial energy.
