After she had brought Dewi to life through a scientific method, Doc began researching animation for a more... Mary Shelley-esque project. Doc began searching for women who had donated their bodies to science, all healthy and within the same age range and began gathering what she needed to make her creation. She had always thought of Dewi like her daughter, since she was the only Sparks Girl to be created with the Doctor's labs. And, as any parent could tell you, the desire for a second child can overwhelm some.

Doc had taken different body parts from each of the cadavers and sewed them together, taking the arduous task of retaining organs and connecting tissue and the circulatory system. However, multiple attempts to reanimate the body were fruitless. Around this time, there was a poltergeist who was attracted to the labs by what was going on. It began to whisper into the Doctor'sear, telling her that having the body function wasn't what was most important, but just having the body there was. So, Doc listened to what she assumed was her intuition, setting the body much like Dewi, with the ability to feel, generate bodily fluids (albeit this time natural ones, rather than just soda) and even left the heart so she could feel her own pulse. She had already grown sentimental to the red-headed corpse she had built, naming her Ruby, and promising she would give her child life as she threw the switch!

As this happened, the poltergeist, satisfied with the vessel it was presented with, possessed the body and animated it. When the sparks stopped flying, the poltergeist sat the body up, made the eyes roll forward, and groaned like an actual monster before breaking her own joke and saying "Nah! I'm just fuckin' with you!!" Bewildered, the Doctor assumed she had created life, but the spirit had to break the bad news. However, This news didn't break the Doctor, but excite her! She still asked if Ruby was okay and the Poltergeist said "As much as you love what you've created, I can't take that from you. I'll be Ruby... Mom."

Doc set out for a month, teaching Ruby things about the labs and her new body, while also learning what she could do with her Poltergeist abilities, before the two returned and Ruby was introduced as the newest Sparks Girl. Now, she is still seen as a "newbie" but has been accepted into the fold, even by Trinity, the Human Intern, but Ruby still strikes some nerves by leaving body parts laying around as a practical joke.
