The currency in the Animalian world is called 'sides' and looks like dice. The more sides they have, the more value the 'side' is worth. There are 4 standard face designs for the 'sides' that are considered ‘standard’ currency. These face designs are based on the 4 Animalian species. They body of the 'sides' come in many colors and patterns, but these are meaningless when it comes to the actual value of the ‘sides’. The flourishes on the currency are simply cosmetic, although some Animalian do collect ones they find pretty.

Some small towns and even clans, houses, or tribes may have their own ‘side’ face design, but they aren't as widely accepted as currency throughout the world of Animalia.

The standard currency and its exchange rate relate to the number of faces the dice has. The more faces it has, the higher value it holds. So a 6 sided die is worth 6 sides and a 20 sided die is worth 20 sides. The only exception to this rule is a 'side' that is shaped like a coin. This is only worth 1 side rather than 2.

When referring to the currency it is common practice to shorten the name, so a cube that has 6 sides is referred to as a S6 (or 2S6 if there are two of them, and so on and so forth). The only exception to this rule is again the coin that can be referred to as an S2, but more commonly is just called a side as that is the value it holds.
