gemsnatchers are demonic creatures resembling a combination between a cat and a snake, with gemstones growing from their bodies in clusters and spikes. they are very possessive creatures, driven to hoarding gold, gems, and other peculiar items that catch their interest. they generally make their lairs in remote caves or swamps, often amassing huge collections of their favorite types of objects. humans often try to hunt gemsnatchers to steal their treasures, but are usually killed with great ease - while most gemsnatchers are between 3 and 4  feet tall in their usual state, they can transform into a much larger, demonic form at will which can be anything from 7 feet tall. gemsnatchers usually live solitary lives, but given a strong enough bond they will merge their hoards with one or more partners. they are very particular about maintaining their piles which makes it difficult to share their space with others, but once they find a partner they generally mate for life.

babette is a candy ball python/sphynx cat type gemsnatcher with imperial topaz formations, living under a mountain in south-eastern brazil. her miniature form is only 4 feet tall, but her demonic form is a massive 20 feet due to her age. she is very old, and incredibly vain and powerful. it is unknown exactly how old she is (a lady never tells), but possible sightings of her date back over one hundred years. her hoard has grown to fill several hundred meters of the intricate cave system she calls home, which also serves as a trap in and of itself. from her central chamber, babette can hear anything that moves in the tunnels and track it down if it doesnt die of its own accord. though noone has ever successfully stolen from her, she is susceptible to bribes, gifts, and boasting for long periods of time - it is rumored that a handful of humans have escaped with their lives in this fashion... some of those rumors also say that she has a sixth sense for interior decorating.
