Background
Soldier
Feature: Military Rank
You have a military rank from your career as a soldier. Soldiers loyal to your former military organization still recognize your authority and influence, and they defer to you if they are of a lower rank. You can invoke your rank to exert influence over other soldiers and requisition simple equipment or horses for temporary use. You can also usually gain access to friendly military encampments and fortresses where your rank is recognized.
Backstory
Fern's call came during their sleep that night. Two deities were present: Tymora, Lady Luck and twin sister of Beshaba; and Shaundakul, Rider of the Winds. Tymora asked to bet on a game of dice and threw along amicable conversation, stating that she was happy to host those who challenge fate. Shaundakul originally stayed silent, but eventually asked for a place to rest his sword upon Tymora's prompting.
Later, Fern would briefly encounter the traveller (who, yeah, is clearly Shaundakul) out on a job, swarmed by undead. His weapon, the Sword of Shadows, cut through the mobs with ease. Fern recognises it, and thus identifies the traveller. Shortly after, the two meet again, and Fern bluntly states this discovery, says it doesn't matter to them since they're bound to the cult anyway, and that they'll try to find a way out themself. Shaundakul asks for them to answer Tymora's call; Fern says that they'd rather respond to his call since he asked first (referring to his question about other ventures), and that Tymora was a fine host, but Shaundakul was a friend. He reasoned that he cannot avert Beshaba's misfortune as he is only a lesser god, while Tymora, being her direct counterpart, could balance it.
Beshaba, displeased by Fern's infidelity, had a string of bad luck chase them, but was then thwarted by Tymora's lingering presence. Tymora, ever-jovial, states that she will rescind her call to make way for Shaundakul, but warns that even without Beshaba's active wrath, ill fate would still follow them and might rear its head at any time. She ends by reiterating that she is pleased by all challengers of fate, and leaves.
Shaundakul, the traveller, formally extends a call, and Fern swears their first oath, that being Oath of the Storm. The two part amicably, and Fern goes on to start adventuring.
