Mateo had a simple childhood until his family fell on hard times. His father's business had crumbled before him and they went from a luxurious life to sheer survival. This was difficult with three daughters and a son... Then, miraculously, his parents heard the king and queen were looking for proper suitors for their daughter, Celeste. They thought this was the perfect opprotunity for their poor family.
From a young age, his parents prepared Mateo to court the young princess in hopes the royal family would choose him as her future husband. Lucky for them, the royal family did decided on Mateo for their family. His life would change significantly from here on out.
Mateo was trained with swords, dancing, and proper manners in the royal castle. It was hard for the simple-minded boy, but it became easier to deal with as he got to know his fiance, Celeste, and a young knight named Ernest. Both of them were in support of the new prince and drived him to become achieve higher than the expectations given to him.
There was an issue though... His knight and friend, Ernest, had fallen for him and gave him a kiss when they were just teens. Confused and enraged, he ran away. Life will only tumble from here; A group of lycans then murdered his father and the pervious king, forcing Mateo into the throne, his mind was fumbled from Ernest's kiss where loving Celeste became difficult, and the pressure of seeking revenge made him fail as a father to his daughter, Theia, in the future.
During this pressure, he made poor, and rash decisions. One of them being the secret murder of his wife, as she started to see his unfaithful feelings towards his knight. Full of regret, he faked his death and ran off to the country, surrending his throne to his and Celeste's daughter, Theia. He resides there for half of his life until he reunites with Ernest again, where he makes the 2nd biggest decision of his life... Becoming an immortal vampire with his old knight.
Character
Mateo is more or less a serious, old-fashioned man. He had quite the temper when he was younger, but age and change of scenery has calmed him down quite a bit. He can be brutally honest and stuck in his old ways. Though, he does try to keep an open mind now and tries to take responsibility for his past actions.

• FARMING
His escape from royalty is just what he needed and farming was a good way to exert his frustrations.
• HIS DOG, PRINCESS
Mateo found her in the nearest town, abandoned just as a puppy. She means the absolute world to him.
• WHISKEY
Another way to pass the time is drinking. It may not be good for him, but damn, he doesn't care! It feels great!
• THE LUTE
He heard someone play this instrument in a nearby town... It was so beautiful, it inspired him to purchase his own and play it in his down time.
Dislikes
• "MONSTERS"
He has an aversion from anything that's not human, especially lycans, but he's trying to get over his prejudice through the years.
• MUSHROOMS
Eugh, the texture is horrible and there's no flavor! He gets rid of all the mushrooms that grow on his farm.
• THE FLUTE
Annoying little instrument. He would love to rip it out of any musician's hands and break it right there- but he wouldn't do that. He's working on his anger.
• HIMSELF
Due from his past, there's a lot of well-deserved self loathing. He doesn't have any mirrors on his farm because of it.
Trivia
- Mateo learned how to sword fight, ball dance, and horseback ride all while living as a prince.
- Though he had feelings for Ernest, he still loved Celeste. Just.. not as much. Later, he figures out he's demisexual.
- His daughter, Theia, hates him with all of her being (reasonably so), therefore he doesn't contact her very much.
- A vampire friend of his, Mollie, had pestered him for years to turn into one of her kind. He had refused until Ernest enjoyed the idea, and, eventually, decided to turn.
- He thought that his wife would haunt him in the afterlife, so he hardly took any possessions with him when he ran away- afraid her spirit would be attached to an object.
Related
Both Ernest and Mateo shared a deep bond that Mateo was in denial of for years. Despite their constant fights, they can't help but to love each other deeply. Ernest has lived in regret of his feeling for a long time until he left the castle himself. They both want to start over with their new lives.
Theia doesn't have a good relationship with her father due to his cruel ruling and parenting. She despises that he faked his death and left the throne to her while she was unprepared. Only reunited because of Ernest, she's starting to warm up to him again. She's unsure if she'll ever forgive him, though.
Celeste was a powerful and gorgeous woman who honestly deserved more than her scum of a husband, Mateo. Though, she made some equally bad rulings while she was queen, she could sheild herself from the criticism by using her husband. He might've been the face of the kingdom, but she pulled all the strings. Through the mircacle of fate, she was revived recently. What lies in store is unknown.
