Kaise, or as he likes to go by nowadays, Nines, is a cocky, snarky yet hardworking, kind octoling. Nines was a solider in the octarian army who was seen by the others with respect. Nines would usually take the leadership roles on their missions as most of the new recruits looked to him for any sort of guidance. One specific soldier caught his eyes though and that octoling was Timo. Timo was pushed around by the other soldiers which Nines wasn't going to stand for. He took Timo under his wing and took care of him, soon seeing him as a brother.
Following the defeat of DJ Octavio once again, Nines was lost in direction of what to do next. He'd only ever known serving Octavio, but without him, he wasn't sure what to do next. Timo had decided that they had enough of the life they were living underground which made Nines decide to join him since there wasn't anything left for him here now. The two had made it pretty far until reaching a loading platform. The two were under attack by a helicopter full of now sanitized octarian soldiers. The two had fought off a handful but there were too many. In an act of heroism, Nines jumped into the helicopter full of octarians, guided it away from Timo and the loading platform, and set the helicopter on fire which went out with an explosion with all the octarians and Nines himself inside it.
Nines fell to the bottom, his right side on fire from the explosions as well as getting cut from different pieces of burning debris, one big piece cutting across his face and hitting his left eye. Luckily for Nines, the bottom of the platform was part of a sewage passage. They fell in to the water and were quickly swept away. By some stretch of a miracle, They survived and were spat out in the sewage system. Nines woke up days later in excruciating pain and could barely move his right side. He sat in the sewers for a few more days before taking some scrap metal and making a makeshift crutch to walk with and went to search for a way out. It took them a few days to navigate, but they eventually found a tunnel with light at the end. They reached the end and found themselves outside of a drain that was placed under a road. He eventually reached the top of the road and signaled for help which he got in the form of a ride to a hospital. Once there, he received his much needed treatment. He was in the hospital for month, getting his new burns treated as well as learning to move his body parts again and had to get his eye replaced as well. He had a ton of options to chose from but eventually he picked a custom one which had the iris look like a nine ball, which led to them adopting the new name, Nines. Soon, after almost a year of treatment, they were released and found themselves in Inkopolis.
Now free and living in Inkopolis, Nines took interest in things like gambling, street racing and cars in general, and exploring his new home at night. He searched for Timo as well and eventually found him through Timo's current boyfriend, Atticus. The two were reunited and Nines is now living a good life with people he cares about
