Den-Pow! (Series)

A moderately successful video game and V-pet franchise, Den-Pow! is the brand name, and Daijuu are the creatures.

As implied by the names, the power is electric and the monsters are big. At least, they are supposed to be of moderately large size on average. Their hexagonal containers as V-pets sitting neatly in the hand makes them feel rather small, so the cartoons and video games have to make up that difference best they can.

In the fiction, these creatures roam freely through the world as flesh-and-blood beings, and can only be tamed by gaining their trust and gently pressing the flat metal connectors of the hexagon to their head. While in the hexagon, they may link up with the connectors of neighboring hexagons and visit each other. This is also, handily, a feature of the physical toy too.

The creatures, despite being organic, and not all having the electric typing, are stored digitally within these hexagons, allowing them to be carried safely by our protagonists, who carry up to 6 at a time around a core hexagon, one to each side. The mainline console games have always had some connectivity with their respective real life hexagonal V-pets, though some far more impactful than the others. Generally, the games, which are almost unilaterally turn based, 15-hour RPGs, are considered ''fine'' and ''generally fun.'' Most people are just in it for the critters.
