Mari inherited the Kim Pharmaceutical company due to familial pressure from her family. Rather than giving up and letting herself fill in the seat, she worked hard for the job. She ended up expanding the company into the dark depths of the city underworld, using the company's visage to traffick the lives of angels young and old. Her bloodthirsty drive to profit off of suffering and retake the power a husk could never have has earned her the street name "The Angel Killer".

After Thierry died, Mari was devastated. Her grief was only made worst when she found out she was pregnant with his kid. It wasn't like she didn't want Amir, but she was worried to bear the responsibility alone, especially if her family won't help her. She tried her best, especially in the position she is in being an infamous underground boss, but it is obvious that she has failed Amir. Amir will only live in anxiety having to take her place as the CEO of an empire built on the blood of angels.
