Odenye is a wallflower; meek, lonely, and withdrawn, especially for a halfling. She is much more comfortable in the wilderness studying plant life or working in gardens than socializing with people. Although she treads carefully anywhere she goes and can be quite the worrier, she feels urged to quietly try to do good in the world and leave things better than she found them – a philosophy she also takes up when contacting and binding ghosts and spirits. She has a few spirits she favors and binds frequently to chat with.

In her heart of hearts, she believes herself cowardly and unconfident. She is her own worse enemy when it comes to doing things out of her comfort zone. Her familiar is one of the few friends she has. Although he is only a familiar, she feels even more insecure when he is not around.

BACKSTORY

Hailing from the hamlet of Ravenrest, Odenye spent a lot of her childhood out in the woods and away from the house, cultivating secret gardens of fungi and strange plants. The whispering of the moon in her mind and dreams made her a little...odd. And "spooky", as others called it.

She always felt called away from her family and into the woods or beach, where the moon was brightest and her surroundings were quietest. Her large, boistrous family made it hard for her to get privacy even in the tiny hamlet. She could not escape their influence entirely, though; with her parents being arborists Odenye picked up the family tradition of nature-oriented work and hobbies.

Odenye discovered her predisposititon to spirits when she was a young teen. In the dark woods she was approached by the spirit of a young elf who said he had died of illness and simply wanted company. Odenye agreed, and after a few more meetings and getting to know one another he gave her his name: Yanna. He longed to live again since his life was cut so short, but Odenye was heasitant. It was this event that sparked Odenye to learn the art of binding, a path of witchcraft that she could use to tether Yanna's spirit to an object and share his power with her.

After binding Yanna, Odenye began to seek out cursed or haunted places to discern what troubles the spirits there and help them fulfill what they couldn't in life. The spirits are usually a lot less loud than her regular company even in their frequent grief, and ironically enough she finds them much more predictable and comfortable than living folk. She's bound several — some benign, some malevolent — and aims to keep doing so.

Odenye always sports numerous trinkets: animal skulls, bones, moonstones, and other such totems. Her familiar, a venomous iridescent python, is always wrapped around her body. She more often than not keeps her hair up in a ponytail or bun and adorned with the Silver Wheel of Arianrhod. Her clothing style is dark and layered in hues of purples, blues, and blacks. Even for a halfling she is of below average height.

While she often evokes the power of her more benevolent spirits to aid her and her allies, she is willing to call upon more violent ones should the need be great. She has less practice commanding these ghosts to their fullest potential but tries her best.

  • THE MOON
  • The moon speaks to Odenye. She hears her at night, speaking to her with cryptic wisdoms and strange warnings. She seldom knows her meaning, but Odenye take solace in that in every dream, she is not alone. From an early age, the moon spoke to Odenye in dreams, offering a comforting presence and kind, if cryptic, advice. By now, Odenye can't imagine sleeping without her, to the point that she gets restless duing new moon phases.

Odenye still isn't sure what exactly is speaking to her, but has generally rationalized it to be Arianrhod, goddess of the moon and keeper of the Wheel of Fate. This belief came about after reading about Arianrhod in an old mythological tome, where she is noted for carrying dead souls upon her wheel to an afterlife on the moon in order to decide who is chosen for reincarnation. In acknowledgement of this, Odenye adorns herself with the symbol of the Silver Wheel in her hair as both a symbol of Arianrhod and the moon in general.
