Kaleb is many things, energetic, earnest, and extroverted, to name a few. Above all else, they're optimistic and hopeful. Be it cheery for what tomorrow brings or confident about issues in their past to sort out, they're always hoping and striving for a better future.

Oh, a pity on the poor kid that those issues still consume them at night. Laying awake and alone, How long can one hope? How long can one beg and pray for the missing piece of their life to walk through the door ready to make up for lost time? Kaleb's been waiting for 18 years; how long must they wait before the realization dawns on them? How long until they realize... she's never coming back, is she?

Kaleb was born to Aiden Brekker and [REDACTED]. They didn't have much time to learn about their mother before she was gone. Gone in an instant. Like a cold, uncaring breeze that sweeps the traveler off a cliff, she didn't even bother to stick around to see her only child grow up. Aiden always said there was a deep sadness in Kaleb's mother's heart. You'd expect him to be bitter, yet he spoke of her only in sad, nostalgic tones. As if remembering good times with a friend long gone.

But she wasn't "gone" - Not involuntarily at least, as one would've thought. She chose this in total certainty. To leave her kid and husband behind, but for what, you ask? For home, that's what. Kaleb's mother left her home to be with their father; her decision was muddy and marred with disapproval from her loved ones. Yet after the birth of her child, she fully understood what she wanted. Muddled choices no more, the waters of deliberation were now clear as day, though they cleared far too late. And so, she waded into a clear pool of contemplation and made her choice.

Aiden always says to himself nowadays that he's grateful Kaleb doesn't remember their mom... but he was wrong. Kaleb never forgot her citrusy scent, soft fur, or elegant face. This caused a lot of understandable confusion as a child, remembering someone no longer in your life. Being unable to express how much you miss someone you hardly know - was a lot for a kid. Although the development of dragon children is not as straightforward as human development, Kaleb began talking late, even for their species. Aiden found it worrying, but let them take their time. Even when they finally could speak, Aiden conveniently dodged every question about Kaleb's mother. Kaleb gave up by 13 after the most Aiden could say was to reassure them that she wasn't dead.

Kaleb's extended family wanted little to do with the father and kid. Still, he tried giving Kaleb the best care he could for what he had, which admittedly wasn't much. That all changed rather quickly, though, when Aiden met Pearl Hayes. Suddenly, in 4 years, Kaleb had two new brothers and a whole new world.

Kaleb's adjustment into the Hayes family was over in the blink of an eye; they got along immediately with Pearl's two sons. They had playmates they could roughhouse with and play with all they wanted. Around the time Pearl and Aiden introduced their kids to one another, it was noticed that Kaleb was often having issues with hyperactivity. Aiden found this had always been an issue, but being around so many new people and things seemed to worsen it. It made sense when the blended soon learned Kaleb was autistic. It didn't matter; everyone did what they could to help them. Kaleb's new older brother Jabez would pull his brother Chase away from Kaleb if he saw him overwhelming the poor kid. It's something Kaleb remembers fondly and will forever be grateful for.

As life went on and Kaleb grew up with their step brothers, many things came to light. The most relevant was Kaleb's newfound love for makeup and all things beauty. When they accidentally found their step-mother's left-out makeup, it was like a switch was flipped as Kaleb started messing around. Their step-mother found them messing around with the powders and palettes and -in a move Kaleb never saw coming- offered to teach them about it. An instant appreciation for such a pliable medium was formed that day, and they've never let anyone forget it.
