About
Growing up as a humble chicken farmer, Niko Shellwood was a great appreciator of life. Being taught goodwill at a young age, he would often be seen around his town with his mother, father, and younger sister. Hearing of grand dungeons and foreign magic from adventurers, Niko aspired to explore the world as a cartographer, mapping out every great place he could find so everyone else could experience the world too. However, this all is different now. His family was taken by the green plague, and he's come to find out he has a greater role in the Age of Worms than he can ever understand.
Being hired by a smuggling rogue originally looking to exploit him for his young age paired with his unique skills, the young halfling joins this strange group of adventurers as they embark on a journey none of them could have expected. Together, they face a rising cult, undead dragons seeking destruction, demonic beasts terrorizing towns, and their own mysterious pasts.
Niko has a strong desire to find his family and save them from whatever took them away from him, only agreeing to work with the adventurers in hope he'd make enough money to find a way back home. However, now that they are involved in something much bigger than themselves, he feels conflicted as he encourages his friends to help out the world as they explore it. After all, none of them have anything left to lose except each other. And, if they don't try to help, who will?

Being a halfling, Niko grew up with a deep love for the world and the community nearby his small chicken farm; and even if he may try to act distant to it all now, that deep desire for discovery and family still lingers. He has always been a good-natured boy, but being young, he feels no love for rules or authority. And especially now, with so much taken from him by a cruel world, he feels bitter towards whatever higher beings would let such misery happen. He is haunted by both his past and present, but he's found himself so deep in a quest to help the world that he cannot help but cling onto the more childish side of himself at times. He's quick-tempered, and idealist, but also desperate for others to take him seriously.

Trivia
- Despite his young age, Niko is fluent in the most amount of languages out of everyone in his group. Currently he knows seven languages: Common, Halfling, Goblin, Dwarvish, Primordial, Abyssal, and Sylvan.
- Being such a small creature, Niko has never felt intimidated by a creature solely because of its size. He will both face off and communicate with dragons, huge undead, and more without flinching. (Sometimes this is not ideal)
- Niko hates Gods and openly thinks they're stupid, but still he wears a pendant representing the God Heironeous, as it was something created for him by hand by his friend, Pipin.
- Niko was into a variety of creative hobbies, such as reading and writing, drawing, and embroidery. He tried to learn how to sew clothing, but he didn't get very good at it before he ended up on his own.
- He loves animals! He regularly stops to greet other peoples' pets and enjoys observing the natural wildlife around him.
- The four leaf clovers on his longbow are a bit of a literal symbol, as he has the "Lucky" feature in game, allowing me to reroll any natural 1's. He actually considers his lucky charm the feathers on his tail from his hen, Grub.
- Niko used to wrap his feet in bandages to compensate for shoes, as he couldn't afford any and was unable to find any that came in his size that he felt comfortable stealing.
RELATIONS
Niko's good, generally selfless nature tends to contrast Thulu's greedy, thief lifestyle. He encourages her to consistently make the selfless choice, and in turn she offers him maturity and charm to aid in social situations. After being separated from his family, Niko was determined not to let go of them. He most certainly didn't want to "replace" them. This is why his relationship with Thulu becomes so surprising to even him, as he continues to try and deny the larger role she plays in his life. While she's rough around the edges, he is too, and she shows him how to survive, and thrive, even, on his own. Most of all, she took him seriously when no one else would. They've adopted an unspoken trust between one another, watching each others' backs fiercely and each sacrificing their own personal safety to protect the other.
Psyon and Niko's dynamic has always been very casual. The half-orc's mellow attitude made it feel easy for the halfling to simply be around him. They have respected and worked with one another since the beginning, being paired together to fight at one another's side. Psyon's burly nature makes it easy for Niko to keep his distance and help him more effectively. Niko has also gained some boldness from watching Psyon fight, fearlessly jumping into the face of danger to help his friends. Psyon stands up for Niko and helps the young boy have a voice where others would usually not listen, dismissing him as just some little kid, and for this he is forever grateful. While not the most open to one another, Niko and Psyon trust each other and watch out for each other. They feel comfortable in each other's space.
Bi-Han and Niko had a strained relationship until recently. Bi-Han had been looking for the group after the death of his twin brother, who had previously been traveling with them, and assumed his identity when he did find them. Niko, believing Bi-Han to be his old friend, had felt extremely betrayed when the truth was revealed by, not the warlock, but a Mushroom Goddess who was trying to manipulate Niko into killing him. Still, Niko chose to spare him, and after speaking with Bi-Han, he's come to learn to forgive and trust the other in time. Niko has come to find that they often share similar moral outlooks. Bi-Han and Niko are often working together to help protect the innocent. The two have shared things with each other that they would trust with no one else and they often lean on each other for guidance.
