loyal as a bird, diable is always trying their best to guide the lost souls of tsurumi island to eternal rest and peace. if he cannot find his own peace, he shall guide the others to resting once more. hate had no place in their heart, despite having to guide those who caused his very own demise, diable is always tender and gentle. diable roams the lost lands of tsurumi, awaiting human affection and interaction. it had been thousands of years since he had ever talked to another, just where could they all be? as expected, diable was always there to aid the traveler once they came to tsurumi island. forgiveness is a virtue, one that diable always follows. souls cry out for his very recognition, to finally be given a word of peace and an eternal pardon. deep down, diable has hurt and sadness bubbling within him--dare he not express it.
not much is disclosed about diable's childhood; it seems to be almost a sensitive topic toward the spirit. all diable was willing to discuss was his upbringing, how he got the role he plays now.
diable was a sacrifice made by the people of tsurumi island to honor kapatcir. he was scared and worried, he died alone that night, his soul begging for somebody to come and visit, anyone. next to his body laid his soul, hovering and watching, as if he could go back inside his body and become one again. despair and sadness took over his very body, yet, something or someone could be heard singing in the distance.
a little boy with a hat big as ever, singing a small lullaby to him--"la.. la la... la la la la la...." could this be a sign? would he no longer be alone? diable's soul listened and listened, peace beginning to envelop him. a glowing light surrounded his soul and soon, a tall and thundering bird stood in front of him; gaze looking down upon his very body.
kapatcir tilted their head,
"sorrow not, you will live a grand and purposeful life under my watchful wing, and under their’s as well."
souls of children and past sacrifices began to fade in, soft and gentle smiles plastered upon their faces. "we may be trapped here, but the thunder will sing us to sleep. a constant lullaby, we are held with no chains, but with our very own grievances. rest your soul, carry on."
the thunderbird gently placed their head against his, the light around him grew stronger and soon, diable had a body to call his own once more.
"ignorance shall stain their mind, but you shall cure their endeavor. for the people above know not of what they have done. to you, and to those of the past." gusts of wind surrounded diable as the angry thunderbird took to the skies, the storming environment growing harsher as every minute passed.
he was made solely of stardust, love, and understanding. his body was transparent, anything could pass through it, yet... he felt so whole.
love... yes, love.
"i will follow your footsteps... i will heal this island, our curse will last no longer. i will bring new life and they shall be reborn." and with that, diable faded away, awaiting for his mission to begin.

deceased; ultimately struck by lightning from the thunderbird's anger from ruu's sacrifice; he often accompanies diable on his adventures to heal and cleanse the souls of tsurumi island; however, he also resides on the lands of the 'furthermore.'

deceased; died from a broken heart after diable was sacrificed; she lives on the lands of the 'furthermore,' often exploring the lands away from the islands. her wandering spirit is almost always found in dragonspine near albedo's campsite.

deceased; ultimately sacrificed alongside diable; their soul haunts a nearby thunderbird statue that rests by the ceremonial site on tsurumi island; when activated, the spirit of a mouse goes scurrying across the traveler's feet before ultimately fading away into the fog
