Joey is just starting high school after being homeschooled for all of his life. His mom worried that he would be bullied because he is autistic and nonverbal, but with the help of a school councilor, he was introduced to a group of teens that have a lot of his same interests, and they hit it off immedietly. Joey keeps his hair buzzed, but cycles through a variety of wigs, most of which are pink/pastel colors. He loves unicorns and mermaids, and wants to become and artist and author of kids books when he's older. Gender norms tend to confuse and annoy him, but he's still kind of figuring out his identity. Of all his friends, he gets along best with Ida. She is always patient, and also sews little outfits for his stuffed unicorn.
