Profile
Cricket • Cricketpaw • [Cricketthroat]
A large long haired dark brown tabby tom w/ yellow eyes
Cricketthroat was brought into the clan at 8 moons of age, found strangled by his own small collar, and was allowed to stay by Tuistar. He was trained by the young warrior Tawnyfeather, who's foster kit Kowhaipaw is now his own apprentice. Cricketthroat has few friends in the clan, due to a combination of introvertedness and the clans distrust of his heritage; although once close with Lichenflower the two drifted apart over time. This isn't helped by Cricketthroat's perceived laziness either. He hopes that Kowhaipaw will be more accepted than him, although her lack of natural ability concerns him.
.
Cricket:
Cricket was born to a housecat living on the edge of Kelton. His family was cared for by humans for the first stages of his life until for unknown reasons they never returned home. Cricket's siblings scattered to survive on their own terms but Cricket stayed behind to care for his mother who was unwilling to leave the house in case her owner's returned. While out hunting a shortage in the house's wiring causes a fire to start and it's well spread by the time he arrives. He manages to get his mother out but she dies of smoke inhalation so he buties her in the front garden
Cricket left town at this point, intending to start over but after days of travelling collapsed on the edge of Duskclan territory, his outgrown collar restricting breathing and causing harsh chafing. He's found by Lichenpaw, the young Cleric's apprentice and his warrior escort Tawnyfeahter and his healed and taken back to the clan. Tuistar allows him to join as an apprentice under Tawnyfeather's mentorship.
Cricketpaw:
Cricketpaw and Lichenpaw strike up a close friendship in the early days of his apprenticeship, as Cricketpaw heals and Lichenpaw helps him adjust; it's Lichenpaw that shows him where the forget-me-nots bloom in spring and summer which Cricketpaw uses to hide his scarred neck. Eventually mounting pressures from other clan members due to Cricketpaw's origins and Lichenpaw's role as as future cleric is what causes Lichenpaw to break off their relationship through increasing avoidence.
Cricketpaw struggles socially due to this abandonment, with no friends outside of his mentor. He excells in hunting and becomes a passable fighter but becomes unmotivated towards his duties for the clan. He becomes a warrior with the name Cricketthroat at 21 moons of age; although it's implied that he's named for his dark grey markings adorning his chest and throat Cricketthroat sees it as a mockery of his hoarse voice (caused by his collar)
Cricketthroat:
Cricketthroat becomes a mentor to Lichenflower's half sister Kowhaipaw at 29 moons of age, unusually young by Duskclan's standards although it's seen as obvious that this is mainly due to their shared housecat lineage. Despite Cricketthroat's apathetic attitude towards his duties and clan he feels somewhat inspired by Kowhaipaw's optimisim and dedication, even if part of him thinks it's misplaced. He's well aware of Lichenflower's unhappiness of him as her mentor and feels irritated and resentful towards him.

Cricketthroat has picked up a number of skills through providing for himself as a young cat. Having to hunt for two cats from a young age made him a very reliable and resourceful hunter. Although he's not confrontational and typically avoids combat he's able to hold his own in a fight and is typically quite agile. However his skills in communication are lacking; he struggles to express himself through verbal tone and is often misinterpreted as being cold when being genuine, which isn't helped by his lack of patience with others.
Physical Appearence
Cricketthroat is a slightly taller average size tom with mid length fur and a long tail. He's a tortie with ginger and white fur and grey patches. He decorates his fur with blue forget-me-not flowers when in season which he uses alongside māpau leaves to cover scars caused by chafing around his neck. His eyes are teal blue.
Scars / Injuries
- Diagonal scars across his faced caused by a run in with a possum at a young age.
- Neck scars caused by the chafing of an outgrown collar.
Accessories
- Māpau leaves used to cover the scars around his neck (optionally other NZ-appropriate leaves could be used)
- Forget-me-nots covering his neck scars and scattered through his pelt (only used while in season)
Relationships
STANDING
Duskclan
Cricketthroat has a fairly poor standing within Duskclan. From the beginning he was viewed with apprehension due to his discovery as an intruder and his origins as a housecat. This steadily worsened as Cricketthroat made few friends outside of his mentor and his apathy towards clan duties increased, seen as proof of the 'lazy housecat' stereotypes already imposed on him by the clan, not helped by his indistinguisable sarcasm.
Although he's not treated with outright hostility by the whole clan, even younger members view him with a bit of apprehension and discomfort. Some extended this to Kowhaipaw the moment she was apprenticed to him but others just pity her for the forced association.
Unnamed
Cricketthroat both resents and desperately misses his mother. He doesn't understand her instance to wait and is furiously angry that she allowed herself to die. His fondest memories are of his early childhood and the feeling of warmth and safety he finds there.
.
Lichenflower
Cricketthroat still holds bitter resentment over the way he was isolated by Lichenflower as apprentices. This is worsened by Lichenflower's apprehension towards him as Kowhaipaw's mentor. Frustratingly though, as much as Cricketthroat tries he can't seem to hate him as much as he would like and part of him admires his compassion which he sees reflected by in his sister; deep down he misses their friendship and what it could've become.
Kowhaipaw
Cricketthroat admires Kowhaipaw's dedication to training and her optisim but is concerned by her lack of ability with hunting and fighting. He finds her somewhat inspiring however and sees her potential needs confidence to be unlocked, although he's not so sure that he'll be able to give her what she needs as a mentor.
.
Tawnyfeather
Tawnyfeather and Cricketthroat got along from the moment they met, sharing the same biting sense of humour. Although he was apprenticed to her as a punishment of sorts for failing to remove him from Duskclan's territory Tawnyfeather never saw it as one. Cricketthroat hates her mate Poppystorm but unspokenly understands why Tawnyfeather started their relationship. He's felt removed from her slightly since she's had kits as he knows she's accepted in a way that he will never be, although he still enjoys spending time with her and her family.
Stoatbite
Cricketthroat has disliked Stoatbite and the other senior warriors ever since they opposed his joining of the clan. Stoatbite antagonises Cricketthroat verbally as well as intentionally assigning him to added patrols under the guise of trying to 'motivate him'. In return Cricketthroat fufills his duties half-heartedly at best.
