THE FLAME OF DEATH
Genji Mosu is a Shadow Operative apprentice working with the elusive Kirijo Group in Iwatodai, Japan. He's an orphan, having been adopted by Naoya Toudou after he was rescued during Chaos Call. Having freshly turned 19, that means he's been in the Ops program for 10 years, making Genji the self proclaimed leader of the apprentice group, and it's a well deserved proclamation considering he's being trained by Mitsuru Kirijo herself.

Genji is a sole survivor from Himeji, Japan's cognitive pocket experiecing the brunt of Chaos's Call- a catostrophic event that resulted in people everywhere awakening to the power of Persona- Genji himself included. After an encounter with [REDACTED] that led to the loss of his right eye, Genji's Persona kept him alive and concious long enough to be found and rescued by Shadow Operatve Naoya Toudou, the organizations lead scientist. Genji, before awakening to Camazotz and being taken in by the Kirijo Group, had been kicked out of his family's home due to being trans and having been outed by one of his siblings; Chaos's Call promptly puncuated his escape from Himeji Castle, the attraction they ran in Himeji, and trapped him in the ancient castle. He was relatively safe if not for [REDACTED] appearing and attempting to eat him, and after having sucessfully repelling [REDACTED] and being rescued, an attempt by the Operatives to return him to his parents resulted in them viciously berating the Operatives who had found him, and their explicit permission to keep Genji in their care.
So they did.
Genji was far from what he is presently. The child was reserved, and incredibly jumpy, he'd hide away when voices were raised and flinch away from offered hands- it was clear he hadn't expereiced the best life, even before having been outed. It took a lot of time for him to feel comfortable around the other children taken by the Operatives, let alone the Operatives themselves, although suprisingly it was Naoya who gained a soft spot for him and earned Genji's trust first. Naoya's personaility and methods of care helped bring out Genji's true colors, and it was mostly in part to him that Genji left his shell and began to act more like the Genji many know presently. He was officially adopted two years after being rescued, and he affectionately refers to Naoya as his "pops" when speaking about him.
the compound is empty. it's quiet. genji doesn't really like it.
it isn't fun to be the only one here who doesn't really go home. hachiro's dragged off to his mentor's house, faia is under the care of his secondary mentor and somewhere where he isn't prone to his anxiety attacks, aiko goes home to his mom's house most days and when he doesn't he stays with his mentors, even kaito goes "home" if living with the androids counts as that.
genji doesn't have that.
his dad doesn't really sleep; he tried to explain it to genji once, something about the influence of a god not needing rest and being constantly awake effecting himself. sometimes when he was little he'd take naps with genji, or sleep with him after a nightmare, but that stopped after a while.
his dad doing that for him. not the nightmares.
now genji has his own problems. the influence of his persona is finally effecting him after all these years, something he hadn't really paid attention to until his hair lit itself on fire once during battle, or until his fangs poked into his lip and had him bleeding during a lecture. now he was gaining the mannerisms of a bat, much like the other him- night was when he itched to walk, to run, to fight- but no one was ever in the compound this late at night unless kirijo-senpai was up late with paperwork with her teammates, or one of the other apprentices had been too tired to go home and decided to stay in their room here.
genji didn't really have that luxury.
"it's not really something you can get used to, ya know?"
"you can be doing this your entire life and the feeling in your gut won't ever rest. the stench of rot will never leave your nose, the taste of iron will never leave your tongue."
"they try to tell you it'll get easier. you're not fighting humans, these are clearly monsters, not something sick and twisted- they weren't something before hand, they were born from the ichor and it will be what they return to."
"but you can't tell a child not to feel sick when something that isn't quite bone but mimics it cracks and snaps under the weight of their weapon. you can't tell a kid that the liquid pooling at their feet isn't really blood when it has the same consistency and smell. you can't tell a baby that the screams that are ripped out of the throat of a monster don't sound vaguely humanoid when it rings loudly in their ears and pieces through their dreams."

DESIGN NOTES
Genji is missing his right eye, and he has a nasty scar inflicted by [REDACTED] from where it was ripped out. His hair covers that eye almost perfectly, although part of the scar almost always peeks out
Genji has little fangs poking out of his mouth and visible best when he speaks, its an influence of Camazotz
Genji's eyeshine is white and light blue (see reference), while his visible eye has a white eye ring, this is due to where he awoke his Persona and his current location. The eye ring is a symbol of power
Genji's nails are claw like, he paints them different colors, but they tend to default to black or a bright/neon green. He likes painting them glow in the dark polishes as well
When in a cogntive pocket (the Dark Hour, TV World, or Metaverse), the tips of Genji's hair turn flame like, wispy even

exploring! he loves to investigate abandoned buildings, ruins, and caves, much to the scolding of his mentor
pyrotechnics! anything that has to do with fire makes him feral
streaming! he goes by the screen name C4M4Z0TZ on Twitch and other socials, and will stream his adventures in different (likely haunted) places.
science! his father is the head scientist of the Kirijo Group, after all, it's safe to assume Naoya nurtured a love for it
spicy beef bowls! food in general takes Genji to his happy place, but something about spicy hot noodles and perfectly cooked beef hits different

overly sweet food, Genji doesn't mind sweet treats at all, but if the treat is 95% sugar he WILL hate it

Kei Sadoko was Genji's girlfriend, prompty turned ex with a bullet to her head. The girl was an orphan like the majority of the apprentices under the Operatives care, but unlike them, she had been placed in Iwatodai by a faction of past Kirijo Group employees, Omega Labs. They focus on using Shadows maliciously, and Kei had infilitrated the Kirijo group in an attempt to steal top secret information for them. The User begun dating Genji to lower his guard and eventually get him to turn on his teammates. Her plan failed, in the end, and she was killed by the boy she had tried to manipulate in a sick twist of irony.

Hachiro Hideyoshi is a fellow apprentice working with the Kirijo Group, training under Shinjiro Aragaki-Sanada, and due to being orphaned by Chaos's Call, living with him and his family. Hachiro is an exceedinly rare type of User with control over the Almighty element, meaning he often is in close proximity to Genji since Naoya (a fellow Almighty aligned User) checks in on him more frequently than the other apprentices. He and Genji have an... oddly flirtaous relationship despite the amount of fighting Hachiro intiates and Genji entertains. Despite their bickering, they make a great team on the battlefield, and are of the elitest Users in their generation for a reason.

Mitsuru Kirijo is the head of the 1st Division of Shadow Operatives, as well as the current leader of the Kirijo Group. The woman was one of the founding members of the Operatives, as well as being the founder of its preceeding group, S.E.E.S. She elected herself as Genji's second mentor, mostly out of worry that Genji's first mentor and father, Naoya, would be too soft on his son. She helps curb Genji's more impulsive side, and focuses her teachings on strategy and skillful use of his magic, dutifully teaching him how to better use his magic reserves compared to his peers. Despite her serious nature and devotion to her duties as a User and researcher, she cares about her student and priortizes his needs first, always.

Aiko Miura is a fellow apprentice working with the Kirijo Group, and the only one on the team to not be an orphan, although he still lives at the compound along with everyone else. He's a prodigy Agi and Mudo User being trained by Chidori and Junpei Iori, and like the rest of the apprentices he is working to refine his abilities. Aiko is... "reserved". He doesn't emote quite like everyone else, and spcaes out frequently, unless hes being directly spoken to. Despite that, Genji enjoys his company, especially since Aiko is quiet but a wonderful listener, and he doesn't mind many of Genji's adventures since there always tend to be bugs hanging about whereever they go.
"ok, alright, but did you at least get permission to do this, genji?"
"no- but that's what makes this fun- doing it with the danger of being CAUGHT!"
Faia Ichigo is a fellow apprentice working with the Kirijo Group, being trained by Akihiko Aragaki-Sanada and Fuuka Yamagishi- mainly due to the fact he has navigator esque abilities that require he hone those skills with someone appropriately skilled with them. He's the worrier of the apprentices, being the only one equipped with healing magic turns you into a bit of a mom friend, but he always means well with his excuses to NOT go do something insanely dangerous. He and Genji tend to butt heads when it comes to actually doing things, impulsivity meeting reasoning, but they both know they can rely on each other to protect the other while in battle.

Naoya Todou was the first Wildcard of what the Velvet Room refers to as "the second phase", and one of few to not be of the Fool Arcana. It's been years since the release of Pandora and the subsequent opening of Pandora's Box that made it easier for Gods to interfere with and control humanity, but none of that is Naoya's problem anymore- as he kindly told the Velvet Room before fucking off forever: "i'm retired". Naoya (Margaret's least favorite person ever) now works with the Kirijo Group after having obliterated a Full Moon Shadow for them out of complete and utter boredom, and puts his multiple (secret) degrees to use for their labs where he studies Shadows, Users, and other things tied to cognition. On top of this, Naoya harbors an entire God in place of a portion, his Persona Ra aiding in his findings and research. Somehow and for Gods know what reason, he's taken in Genji as his son- and despite everything is actually an amazing father. The two share a love for science, pyrotechnics, and the study of Shadows and Personas- fate couldn't have made Genji's life any better.
