Backstory:

(Note that this character works in politics, but I am not trying to make any kind of political statement here- he is simply a character.)

The Russell siblings tend towards greatness, most of them known for being successful, talented people. Ryker is on track to run for office as a politician who actually wants to do some good, and is widely known by others for his charitable donations from his various investments. As they are all busy adults, they don't often get together to do things anymore, but after his youngest sister Mick finds the address to the house they lived in as young children, which has now been abandoned, and remembering brief mentions of the shed in the backyard being strictly forbidden by their mom Erin, Ryker agrees to go explore it with her and their other siblings.

While exploring the house, they go into the shed and find a strange machine. Curious, Mick presses a few buttons, and managed to activate it. What none of them had realized was that the machine was actually an inventor's semi-failed attempt at a time machine, and the five of them are transported several years in the future. 

They appear in a strange new world (almost exactly matching the recurring "spaceship dreams" Ryker had as a child that his mom told him was simply his imagination), only to find themselves greeted by the bewildered inventor of the machine, Jeremiah. After explaining to him what had happened, Jeremiah reveals that the same thing happened to their mother nearly 30 years ago. She found his machine and got stuck in the future for years, meeting their dad Emric while Jeremiah and Erin worked to  create a way back. 

Erin and Emric fell in love and over the years had four children, Ryker, Thales, Sagan, and Falynn, each of them genetically engineered to succeed. Mick, however, was accidentally conceived, and thus did not have the genetic advantages her siblings had. But Mick's dad never even  got to know she existed. Jeremiah had  finally come up with a way to return to the present, but it was a  one-way trip. After an argument where Erin said that they should go back to the present and Emric stated  that the kids belong here, their mother Erin snuck out and used  Jeremiah's invention to return her and  the kids to the present. The gateway, however, destabilized, leaving  Jeremiah still stuck in the future, initially unaware Erin had left without telling Emric. Meanwhile Erin set out to make her life as  normal  as possible, subconsciously favoring Mick as her one "normal" child.

The siblings and Jeremiah then set out on a journey to reunite with their father, as well as find a way back to the present.

Personality:

Ryker is very charismatic and great at getting people to like him. He  wants to do good in the world an believes he can use any power for good (he holds a "use the system to change the system idealology"). He is intelligent and good with money, but not attached to it. He can come off as intimidtaing from a distance, but is actually rather soft and loves all things wholesome.
