Thelk Thornbel

This is not my character but rather one of my player's characters. They ran the main "Emperor's Penguins" one shot so if you like you may choose to draw them relating to anything within that one shot. (info for one shot at the bottom of this page here) They ran the one shot with: Hassan and Yuki

As a grub, Thelk loved story time. The earliest memories he has are of the stories his mother would create. Those stories that he held so dear came less and less frequently as he grew older. It wasn’t till Thelk started to attend school that he found a replacement, books. To this day, Thelk still finds great comfort in reading. It takes him back to a simpler time, when he was wide eyed and curious.  Thelk’s family didn’t have the same appreciation for stories. Stories are meant for grubs, not Lampyridae that have already pupated. His siblings, especially, were not very kind. Of course, as good parents, they thought to correct Thelk’s childish hobby. He would understand how silly he was being in due time.  Thelk did agree with his parents. He may be young, but he is still an adult. An adult that  could make his own decisions. Decisions like, “I don’t need my family and I’m leaving.” Thelk has never looked back.

  Thelk is now a drifter, who ran away from home at 16. He is disillusioned by adults and their assumptions of how animalians should be. He picks up odd jobs when he can, but he mostly pickpockets to survive. He learned very quickly how to be a pleasantly sweet two faced liar. He does love learning about different cultures and hearing local legends. His preferred type of writing is fiction, an escape from reality.

Main Outfit | Thelk is an average built (common) firefly. His red sleeveless shirt opens to the right side, clipping closed under the left arm hole. This is a common design for Beetle shirts as they allow the shirt to be wrapped under the elytra, which would otherwise be trapped by any form of pull over clothes.  His baggy high rise pants are a dark unsaturated blue color and only fall to his mid cavphs. They are secured at the top by a pull string tie that he ties to the left. Like most large thoraxed Beetles, his pants have a hole for his thorax. Besides his pant pockets, he has two small bags. One slung on his right hip and another secured around his waist that is hidden under his elytra.  He has a fashionable pair of black faux shoes, a matching pair of sturdy cloth that cuffs at the ankle and only extends ⅓ down his feet. They serve literally no practical function but he likes how they look.  His glasses are his most prized possession. Like most Beetles, he has less than ideal eyesight. While Beetle culture has a rich oral history, they don’t hold reading or writing in high regard. (note: this is a players interpretation of a race and is not canon) Thelks glasses are the only thing that lets him enjoy his books. He doesn’t wear them unless he is reading/writing or trying to appear more innocent and friendly.
