Profile
Leoch is the Elysian boatman who is incredibly humble despite his status as the only one skilled enough to navigate not only up the floating island's rivers but also through the treacherous lava of the Phlegethon. It's no big deal, really, he would say. The boat's just made of a strong material.
He's always quiet at first, but he remembers the stories people tell. If they mention that even a distant family member is sick, he'll ask about them on his guest's next trip, often to their surprise. His attention to detail makes him the perfect gift-giver.
When he's not adrift in his gondola, Leoch enjoys arts and crafts - he's the author of The Traveler's Guide to the Underworld, writing under a clever and punny pen name. He sketches portraits of people passing by on the street, and if his conversations with passengers ever drift upon the topic or they have an excessively long wait on a toll river, he'll draw them too. But at the end of a long day, the thing he looks forward to most is fishing - with the catch-and-release technique, of course. Nothing compares to discovering a new species at the end of your hook, and this region has a ton of them.
Leoch loves his job and the rivers, as each of the five has its own spectacular wonders. When rowing through the Lethe without a passenger to occupy his thoughts, his mind always drifts back to one thing, the secret that most guests will never unlock from him. Nearly all of his wife's memories were stolen from her after she witnessed a forbidden secret during her work with the Tartarian Ring of Fire. The being that removed them also took the couple's pet to prevent her from getting this information back. It's a cherub, a white, winged, amphibious creature that's about the size of a cat and the shape of a salamander. This creature creates reminiscence pearls that grow in size as it bonds with its owner. These small orbs contain a recording of current events, and if Leoch can fish up enough of them from the rivers, he brings them back to her. He hopes that someday, he can restore her to her former state and find the ones who did this. Any lost objects and memories he can't use go on the shelves of his little shop in Tartarus.
They are still in love, but she doesn't know why she feels this way about him. He's very familiar and she knows she can trust him. After her memories were stolen from her, she relearns who they both are. They live together in Elysium.
On Leoch's days off, he often brings his lover out on the water with him. Spending nights resting in his boat under the countless stars, they can fall asleep to the gentle crash of waterfalls flowing in the distance. Sometimes, they rest in the peaceful silence of Limbo, watching the dark sediments pile up as their hearts beat together.
