Background: When she was in middle school, her father was chasing down a man who had stolen his wallet when a cop shot him in the back. The media and the courts were on the cop's side and he was allowed to go free. Crisis eventually tracked him down in an effort to take revenge, only to thwart his suicide attempt. He went as far as to give her his gun and asked her to do the job, but she broke down in tears and told him that if he wanted to die that badly, then his punishment should be to live. They both had a good laugh about that and he quit the force the next day.
The event had not gone unnoticed. The cop's neighbor, a magician and former vigilante known as Jedidiah "Old Man" Oldman, had nearly intervened himself that night. Impressed by the girl's heart, he took Crisis under his wing and trained her to be a magical vigilante.
