Genesis

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. It's much easier to be brave when you don't believe that the monster under your bed is real.

Genesis raised a cold, golden gaze upon the eager scholar standing at the door of her study. They were certainly curious... but, were they worthy? "Are you sure you want your questions answered?" she asked softly, deep voice reverberating in the silence. A flicker of uncertainty crossed his purple eyes. "Some questions," she continued slowly, stepping around the desk and coming within inches of the other phae's face, "are better left in the dark." With a curl of her lip, a snicker tickled his ear as she drew her fangs ever closer. "You are not worthy of my knowledge." Her teeth snicked closed and the lilac phae jumped back. "Get out of my study," she growled.

Appearance

Genesis is not a typical Mirroweld by appearance. Her coat is blood red and vibrant and she has piercing golden eyes. Her neck is littered with small scars from an accident while she was on her Passage of Transcendence. As a scholarly individual, she will frequently be seen wearing large leather bags, as well as a silk scarf passed down from her monther.

Genesis is well known for her somewhat excentric and... direct personality. Over her years as an Inquisitor, she developed a reputation for her studious and persistent nature as she gathered what scraps of knowledge she could on the gods of other herds. Though some questioned her intentions, they could not dispute the results her persistence brought to the archives deep within the Halls of Illumination. She has spent a majority of her life gathering knowledge, craving ever more understanding of the spiritual realm. In recent years her pursuit turned more furvent and obsessive, becoming increasingly more protective of her work and writings. Having recently achieved her status as a High Sage, she has taken to locking herself in her study, pouring over scroll after scroll. She is known as an expert on religion and deities among the High Sages, though she is new to the rank.

Few choose to approach her for this knowledge due to her reticence, though, some will say they also fear her biting tongue and superior attitude. Genesis knows she has important findings and takes extreme pleasure in keeping them for herself or her few trusted inquisitors. Some suspect that her intentions are less than honorable, but she has never once crossed any lines, and those she mentors revere her. Thus, any murmurs are quickly dismissed.

When she wants to be, Genesis is incredibly charismatic, weilding her loyalty and knowledge to win others to whatever her personal search may be at that time. Often, she will test those curious about her work, and only if she personally deems them worthy will they be granted access to her knowledge hoard. Once her trust is won, she will be loyal to a fault, and expects the same in return.

Adolescence

Genesis was born to a middle aged Archivist by the name of Exodus. Exodus had thusfar devoted her life to the study of the pantheon of deities around the archipelago, and it came as a shock to many when she had a fawn. Exodus wasn't a great mother, but she wasn't exactly bad either. She mostly lacked empathy for her daughter while she was young, likely due to her reclusive nature and inexperience with fawns. However, Exodus was excellent at telling tales, and could influence Genesis to do or believe just about anything she wanted.

In her third year, Genesis developed her magic, and was quite surprised to have Empathy instead of Illusion like her mother. This became a handy tool in her satchel, as she began to sense her mother's intentions and emotions as she interacted with the world around her. Genesis kept her magic a secret for a while and began learning the art of deception to remain in her mother's good graces.

Genesis spent most of her first four years among her mother's books, learning to read and write at a remarkably young age. Her love of knowledge grew from her mother's and she knew much of the lore of the pantheon long before it was time for her to take the Passage of Transcendence. While she might not always like her mother's snappy nature or condescention, she did appreciate what she had created and knew she was given a rare chance to read scrolls and books many would kill to get their hooves on.

Young Adult

Her fifth year was spent preparing and planning for her Passage. In discussions with her mother, she had devised a plan to specifically visit important divine locations, such as one of the bioluminescent hubs in Vinelocke. Towards the end of her planning, Exodus approached her with a specific request: to visit a long forgotten temple in the Blackspire Mountains near Ruinfell. One of the Inquisitors that frequently worked with Exodus planned to meet up with Genesis towards the end of her Passage in The Citadel on Desert, and they would take the journey onwards from there.

The greater part of Genesis' Passage was spent searching the libraries and archives of other herds for information on the other deities that she hadn't seen or read yet. While she was wildly unsuccessful for the most part (afterall, who was going to show secret knowledge to an over zealous, inexperienced Mirroweld), she did learn much of their cultures and some more about the other deities, though she found she did not like any of them much. Even Izmir and Nue, whom she had always been told so much about, seemed far too... boring? As she journeyed between locations, this was often what she pondered upon, wondering if she even believed that the pantheon existed. A piece of her wanted them to, otherwise it would mean her and her mother's life studies were wasted upon ethereal beings invented simply for the sake of emotional comfort.

As she neared the end of her Passage, she was no nearer to figuring out the answer to her questions. However, she was eager for the last stretch as it meant she would soon return home and be able to discuss her thoughts openly with her mother. Genesis met up with the Inquisitor, Keres, as planned and they set out for the Blackspire Mountains together. They followed the Great River most of the way, ensuring they had enough water before making it to the mountains where they could hopefully locate more. The journey was long and arduous, made no easier by the rocky, volcanic terraign at the end of the Ashbourne Expanse. It took weeks for them to walk around the edges of the mountains along the coast line before they came to what might have been a trail. Keres' nervous anticipation was tangible to Genesis' growing magical senses, and her curiosity peaked. She had heard whispers that there might be secrets of the forbidden deity, Vronne, in these mountains but she was loathe to actually believe it. . . but, perhaps, she could be wrong.

Genesis and Keres navigated the treacherous path for days, wandering amongst an almost unintelligible path. At the end of the fifth day, ancient ruins loomed out of the ashen air. There were barely any remnants left and those that were were blackened and cracked from numerous exposures to volcanic erruptions over the centuries. As Keres inspected some markings upon one of the towering monoliths, Genesis cautiously moved forward, intrigued by what appeared to be an opening in the foundations. As she drew close enough to almost peer within, her hoof caught a trap wire and she was ensnared with enchanted chains. They encircled her neck as she attempted to scramble backwards, crying out to her companion for assistance. She remembered hearing him scramble to her. . . hearing her own hooves scrape against the stone. . . feeling her breath leave her body until her vision blackened.

She would not wake until the next morning. Keres carried her upon his back, his demeanor dim and emotions in utter turmoil. Her neck hurt, and she could hardly move for the pain. Dried blood caked the poorly constructed bandages Keres had somehow managed to bind about her wounds. The next several days were a blur of pain. Her young body struggled to keep up as they journeyed West to the point of the mountains to cross the landbridge home. They were fortunate to find Exodus and some Sentinels waiting at the landbridge. Genesis was quick to receive slightly better treatment, but needed to reach the Outpost on Shattered for proper care and herbs.

Genesis spent the next month in the company of the Sentinels as she healed and her infections were treated. Because of the delay in proper medical attention, the wounds on her neck left unsightly scars, a forever mark of the horrible end to her Passage. Once she was better, she made her way back to her home in Illumina. However, once she reached home she was met with a horrible sight. Justicars were leading her bloody mother from within her study in the Halls of Illumination, the dead body of Keres laying within. Horrified, Genesis tried to talk with the guards, but they kept her back, making sure she kept her distance. Genesis searched her mother's face for an explanation, but all she could find was a calm sense of satisfied purpose, masking the euphoric pleasure and excitement radiating from within her mind.

Exodus was tried and sentenced to exile, marked with a cut to the right eye and sent far, far away from the herd and from her studies. The only piece of her mother she was left with was her old golden colored scarf, which Genesis kept locked away for years. Her Ingress and Vow of Knowledge were marred by her mother's deeds, and Genesis was watched with a wary eye by many within the herd. For, despite her efforts as a fawn, she had turned out quite like her mother.

Because she was never able to get answers from her mother concerning her thoughts on the gods, Genesis poured herself into her studies, becoming a Scholar as soon as she could and engrossing herself in any book or scroll that could possibly give her an answer. She wished to gain access to her mother's study, but it was locked for investigation for a couple years after her arrest and banishment.

Genesis kept her head down, proving her loyalty to her studies, though internally holding a grudge against the leadership of the herd for not allowing her to speak with her mother before she was shipped off to who knows where. It was through this hardwork, though, that she gained the trust of a few important scholars and was able to rise to the rank of Inquisitor.

Adult

Once she was finally given the freedom to roam the isles largely unchecked, Genesis went on a secret search for her mother. On the outside, she was gathering resources and knowledge for some High Scholars and Archivists concerning the Pantheon. Both were nearly equally as important to her, and she dedicated five years building connections across the isles and learning more about the Pantheon than she thought possible.

A couple years into her journey, Genesis had an encounter with a Renegade stag that lead to her falling unexpectedly pregnant. She was as much unprepared for this pregnancy as her mother had been with hers, and she journeyed back to Mirroweld in order to have her fawn close to home and leave him in the care of familiar phae. While not young, she certainly did not feel ready to raise a fawn, and so she named him Caanan, and left him with the herd while she resumed her mission abroad.

Two years later, Genesis turned 20 and had collected several valuable contributions for the Archives. It was at this point that she gave up the search for her mother, resolving to return home and take her mother's place among the High Scholars. Soon after she returned, she made her case to fill her mother's old post, and it was granted, though perhaps with some reluctance from other Sages. Genesis took up Exodus' old office, took her son back in, and once again dedicated her life to discovering the secrets of her mother's hoard of literature.

There were many questions she had that needed answers, though chief among them was: why did Exodus kill Keres? And what was so important about the ruins they visited all those years ago?
