The Timbre of Shara

"I live in the sand. Or...used to, anyways. No, scratch that, I still do, technically. Okay, starting over. I grew up in the sand (yeah that’s better) in the city of Enket with my family: Mom, Dad, my little brother Solvik, and my twin brother Seeran. He and I are both 19 years old, and Solvik is only 14. Mom and Dad run a trading company, helping farmers and artisans get their products to people in other cities. For a fee, of course. We trade around lots of stuff, like fabrics, and foods, and pottery. For a while we worked with a vineyard that sold these really tasty raisins. But for some reason, they stopped contacting us all of a sudden. Anyways, they want Seeran and myself to take over the company someday. Can you imagine me, doing boring trade business stuff? Ew. No. So, I’m going to Olenzaar because I’m auditioning before the greatest bard of all time: Caratris Forgedawn. Well, technically, my parents are sending me and Seeran to deliver some textile goods from their trading business. But really, I’m going and not coming back. Seeran’s going to take the textiles and I’m going to meet Caratris. I feel like I have learned all I can from the sparse musical library in Enket’s archives and from the local vocalists, so I seek to be trained further by the Angelic Voice herself. When I get there, I’ll become her pupil, and then she’ll prepare me to be sent off with some fighter or another and I will collect my stories of battle, and upon my return she will teach me how to weave my tales into songs, as all Students of Valor must do. Or so I’ve read. Somewhere…. Anyways, I heard her last student was eaten by some monster while on his quest, so she hasn’t taken on an apprentice in a while. However, I’m afraid that I’m only being given this opportunity because of my affluence in magic. According to Mom, my great-great grandmother was a Sorcerer, born with magic in her, which explains how I’m even able to do magic at all. I have found that when I sing, when I feel the most in control of myself and my surroundings, I can cast spells. Once, I accidentally turned Solvik’s shoes from leather into water. Water shoes. They turned back...eventually. I am still learning what all I can do with this ability, but I know that normal musicians can’t do what I can. Even still….I have to get this. I got to. I don’t want to go back. Even if I somehow don’t end up working with Caratris, I’ll….I’ll go out on my own. I’ll find some way to make up my own song. I can’t go back after my parents find out that I tried to run away. So I’ll have to run away no matter what the outcome of my audition is. I’ll be a Student of Valor on my own terms if I have to."

Character Epilogue

Shara Livaal was a young runaway who left her Asherati home in Enket for promise of adventure and exploration in Awhistan. Becoming the apprentice to the royal bard of Olenzaar, Caratris, Shara showed promise. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, “oh how the mighty fall.” Shara died at the hands of Rhydegan FIlaro by a blade to the chest. Shara chose to not seek out the afterlife and her reception by Solanil, she was brought back to the world of the living but she was very much not alive. Her body was reanimated into a creature of pure despair and destruction. After serving her duty and slaying the dry lich. Shara used her power to bring the great library of Ashrun back to the surface to salvage what can be saved from the library. After this she sought purpose, bound to an unending life of suffering and pain in her new body. After seeking consultation and comfort with Harzgrimm and Caratris, Shara decided her own fate. One fateful night under the white light of the moon in caratris’ chamber, Shara died once again. Pained screams and hisses of a dry lich filled the night air as Shara drained the life from her own preserved organs. As her heart thumped for the last time, Shara’s body collapsed. Her body was delivered to Enket by Harzgrimm to be buried with her ancestors per asherati tradition. Shara now exists on the Mountain top of Celestia, with her ancestors under Solanil’s glow.
