Shale is the illegitimate child between a human and a minotaur. Her mother decided to keep her a secret, and kept her deep in a cave system - visiting each day for 15 years, until the mother disappeared. No goodbye, no warning. She just didn't come back.
Left all alone, Shale decided to explore the dark tunnels that she had been forbidden to wander through. Going deeper and deeper, she spotted a blue glow in the shape of a fox, darting along the disorienting twists and turns of the tunnels. Leading her to the surface, Empros revealed himself - a mighty vulpine spirit, the deity of innovation and creativity. In the lightning storm around them, he offered Shale the chance to truly live life to the fullest, with knowledge and crafts beyond her wildest dreams - all Empros asked was her devotion.
Learning and creating, Shale traveled around, spreading and sharing Empros's knowledge and guidance. She was a promising follower, quickly catching on to new information and building all sorts of machines and contraptions. Empros decided she was ready, and gave her one of the toughest tasks he had created: Journeying into a new world, and building a way back. The punishment for failure was being stuck in the unfamiliar lands of her destination, and success would mean coming home a genius, and fame that would echo throughout the ages.
