Remi was made by an infertile wizard who wished to have a blood related son. Of course being a magically created being (Ersatz) means he is seen as a living sin. And his creator the ultimate sinner for breaking such a taboo as creating life. However Ersatz are near impossible to tell apart from the real thing. The only way to tell is to find the branding mark on them which is made by the spell used to give them life. This mark is referred to by those who find them unfavorable as "The Mark of Sin". Though many humanoid Ersatz also have facial and body markings for unknown reasons. For two years he managed to avoid the Inquisition's eyes. Until the boy was hurt and examined by an apothecary who had seen his mark reported it and the wizard. The Inquisition came before the Wizard could flee with his son and although Remi managed to get away. His father was not so lucky.
