Zoe has been outgoing and friendly from a young age, leading her to have many friends and to be generally quite popular. When she was a child, she often helped her mother sell things from her Avon catalogue—something that spearheaded her interest in cosmetics and fashion—and when she was old enough she began to sell things on her own. In elementary school, she made a friend of Emily, thinking that she looked nervous and shy; their friend circle expanded from there, with Zoe mostly leading the charge. When she was about 15, she started a blog that reviewed various cosmetics and hosted tutorials she created and photographed, which later transformed into a successful "beauty guru" YouTube channel. Zoe also became known for her campaigns to remind everyone of their own beauty, especially little girls of color.

Due partially to the success of her channel, Zoe was eventually hired as a makeup artist for a photography studio, something she does alongside her blog and videos. Though she's quite busy doing her own things, she rents an apartment in San Francisco with Emily (who she considers to be her best friend) as a roommate.
