Appearance

Gambit’s typical form is a tall figure with pine green fur, a “spiky” ruff, bark-like growths on their clawed hands and flat-footed legs, and a head that appears as a deer skull with pine branch antlers. An icy blue pupil appears in the eye sockets of the skull.

They typicall wear a large and long blue coat with lighter blue patterns, a colorful clasp and fur in-laid inside and edges.

With his illusion abilities, Gambit uses them to appear as he typically does. His true form is a large deer-like creature with a skull-like head, antlers like pine branches and “pine needles” for fur.

Personality

Elusive by both choice and happenstance, Gambit is content to live in solitude, rarely seeing others. He is shy of others and rarely initiates contact. While he has a lot of power and one might even see him “above mortals”, he doesn’t see himself as such and even abhors the comparison. Despite this shyness, he will readily help those who need help, whether they be lost or come to him for help, as he is known as a guide. He gives instructions to the letter and expects them to be followed as such, as to keep those under his care safe and prevent harm to his home. If he failed in his job, he’d be very upset and blame himself, wondering how he could have better protected those under his care.

Those who do harm the woods will find the woods themselves lashing back in mysterious and unexplained ways. In addition to that, he values honesty and lying to him will always make him disappointed and upset.

History

In the woods and shores of the Pacific Northwest, there lurks Gambit. No one is quite sure how long he’s been there or what his origin even is, but he’s always been characterized as a guiding and protective figure. Few know solid information of him and fewer know him personally. But those who know how to find him will gain a trustworthy helper to guide you through the woods or to the secret places within.

Skills

Gambit, like his counterparts, has powers over illusion but uses them more for disappearing than changing his form. He is known to change form if he’s frightening someone but if it’s no necessary, he will not, finding his typical form the most “comfortable”. Those that can see past the Glamour or have artifacts that can allow it, will see past the illusion and at his true form.

Gambit can control plant life within his home turf and communicate to animals, often able to get them to follow his requests.

He has an innate knack for navigation and as long he doesn’t stray out of his “territory”, he will never get lost.

• All his powers are most powerful while he’s in the woods. Outside it, they are more weak. His illusions don’t hold up as well and he struggles to hold them.
• He has little interaction with modern media but he’d like quiet slice-of-life stories.
• While mortal laws don’t always make sense to him, Gambit tries to prevent stepping on anyone’s toes.
• His favorite summer is winter; especially because the snow.
• His favorite animals are songbirds.
• His favorite fruits are berries, specifically blueberries and raspberries.
• He isn’t fond of sour or other intense flavors.
• He only sings when he believes he’s alone. His voice is melodic and haunting, leading to many frightening rumors from people who hear it out in the middle of nowhere.
• Gambit was first created in 2018 as part of a group of regional spirits, his representing the Pacific Northwest.
